[open] wow i hate thinking up titles so i'm not going to

i. 9/28, castle/shrine
[ Man, he knew that portal was no good— he should've just drawn it himself instead of relying on his team members, and now he's got to go find them, wherever the hell they ended up. Kano had come to inside some battered old castle, but with nobody else around, he takes his time looking around, frowning when he realizes that being in this place somehow nullifies his powers; he isn't surprised, but it's still annoying, him having to roll down his sleeves to hide the cuts and bruises on his arms and hands, and flip the hood over his head because he is also one of those unreasonable people who wears hoodies when it's still hot out. There's a bearded dragon hanging around behind his neck, tail flopped over one shoulder and head poking out the other side.

The blue door to the Velvet Room is the main point of interest here, but he simply makes a note of it and moves along, steps slow and silent, head turning and eyes darting around at the slightest sound. Like this, he eventually makes his way to the shrine, climbing the steps two at a time.

Huh.

He is absolutely that person who sees a box full of shiny stones and tries to fish one out. He's going to stuff these into his infinite pockets if he can get away with it. This should be alright, right? In return, he pulls a couple of ketchup packets out of his pockets and drops it into the box. ]

ii. 9/28, town
[ He really does stand out in town, Kano realizes, seeing all the townspeople and being a little unnerved by the lack of diversity compared to his school back in France, or even Canada. But the nice thing is that they don't even give him a second glance as he walks through town with a baseball cap on with as much hair as he can stuffed under it, hood flipped up to cover the hat and provide more shadow to hide his face, and wearing sunglasses over bright red eyes he can't otherwise hide.

Still, having people's eyes on him is never a comfortable feeling no matter how brief, so he eventually takes refuge on top of one of the buildings in the shopping district, perched at the edge of the gently sloped roof as he surveys the street below and stares pointedly at the signs on the street and storefronts without actually reading them. Just staring. His phone is out, and every few seconds he idly taps the screen, looking around for people who look at least a little out of place like he is. ]

Hey! Hey, pssstt!

[ He waves you closer to the building from where he sits on the roof, legs crossed at the ankles and lightly swinging. The bearded dragon sitting in his lap lifts its head and blinks blearily down at you. Come here. ]

There's a desk mint in it for you if you help me out~ How 'bout it?

iii. 9/29-10/2; lockdown
[ He hasn't slept in days. Not since he got here, and especially not at night when those things come out and Kano's training is to avoid them, watching and learning as much as he can before taking action. The monsters— the Outland Mists— crawl their way inside some of the houses, but they never get up to the rooftops where Kano sits, so it's been a good place to keep watch and see what's going on.

From what he can tell, the Mists appear for one hour a night, when the world is overcome by the Blight and turns dark. The Mists originate from the lake, but there are Tamers who also go into the lake to supposedly eradicate the Mists. If that's the case, they're not doing a very good job, because night after night, the numbers don't decrease in the slightest.

But by watching, he's learned that the little charms the Tamers have contain runes that call their Familiars to them, and it really is a stroke of luck that Kano had founds one abandoned in that castle back there. He's not a Tamer, but he tried it out, holding the charm and focusing on it, but no being suddenly comes out to greet him. Instead of the light that emanates when people summon their Personas, the space around Kano becomes darker, shrouding him in shadow and the faintest hissing noise. Disappointing, but not surprising. Like that, he strolls off towards the lake to intercept the next person about to take the plunge, footsteps light and hard to catch, at odds with his voice, loud and cheery. ]

Heeeeeyy! Wait up, wait up~

[ It's a voice that immediately attracts the attention of every Shadow in the area, and it's a voice that speaks in English instead of Japanese because he assumes this is what most Tamers would speak. ]

I'm looking for the Herald! Do you know? Is it down there?

[ ha ha ha

ha

ha............. :')

Terry just walks over to where the coin for critical thinking is, leaving Kano right by the floor entrance.
]

Since you're more "experienced", you can hold off the Shadows while I figure out how to get the coin from the ice.

[ Terry looks at the ice, taps on it, and stands back upright again. He gets out a lightbulb with a flammable cork that seals the exit. There seems to be some kind of liquid in there, but Terry kicks a hole in the ground, drops the lightbulb in the hole after lighting the cork, and watches it explode. Despite the ice and water threatening to seal the hole back up, the fire continues to grow strong. It gets even bigger when it gets contacted with water from the melted ice. This is a hot zone now, made from a incendiary grenade made from a lightbulb and the components of greek fire. Homemade things are the best.

After that, he dives back to the first floor and comes back with a drill in about a minute later. The fire's still going strong...
]

You can still make yourself useful.

[ He's saying that to Kano, even if he isn't looking at him. ]

No, but it's something I can use to bash the ice over and over.

[ And won't die in the process, because it's technically already dead. Probably. Either way, he's pretty sure a drill won't be able to match up to the speed that the ice keeps reforming itself.

And so, Terry does what he says and bashes the ice with the drill over and over until all the parts fly out and is useless. The ice keeps reforming where the fire can no longer reach as it sinks a little deeper.

He looks over at Kano.
]

It's your turn.

Since you're not getting rid of any Shadows (even if they aren't coming this way), I'll make you useful and put you in the ice pit so that the ice doesn't solidly reform completely! Then I'll dig into the ice deeper and get the coin.

[ ni-pa-☆

Get over here, Kano.

[ ... ... ...

Terry looks at the place where the coin is supposed to be and then back at Kano. Then repeats it twice. He looks horribly confused.
]

If you could do something like that, at least speak up that you can...

[ Then he tries to pinpoint where all the coins are in the Dungeon so that he can try and get the next one. ]

[ When Terry snaps out of it, he doesn't see the coin in Kano's hand anymore and--

Ah.

He grabs Kano by the collar and drags him right next to the ice pit with the bomb still burning through the ice.
]

I'll put you there as ice filler, after all.

[ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ]

[ Watching it go like that makes Terry wonder... something about it is bothering him. But then again, everything about Kano is a little unsettling. And annoying.

...

He doesn't drop Kano just yet.
]

Some people died for these coins. If you gather enough, you can open the door and kill the boss that's beyond it. The faster we kill these bosses, the better. People can go home if they want to after.

So don't say stupid things like that.

[ He summons Vassago and goes to sit on his back. He positions Kano so that one of the longer spine spike things sticking out of Vassago's back are between Kano's back and his jacket. Kano can easily get out of it if he takes off his jacket, but they're bound for takeoff. So he probably... shouldn't... ]

We're going to the next floor.

[ No objections, obviously. ]

[ Well, he technically was. That's Terry's fault. He tends to link these personalities to annoying, totally unhelpful beings that know it all, and he's a little spiteful and pretty bad at dealing with these kinds of people. ]

Seemed like you knew things already from how you come off as.

[ Terry brushes his hand away, but not too roughly. He's just way too grumpy right now that he's been threatening Kano, an alternate version of Kido's family, left and right without hesitation. He really shouldn't be, but.

Vassago takes flight and seems like he's flying to the horde of Shadows. Time to brace yourself!

[ Maybe if Terry ever finds out, he'd want to ask Kano... why would he keep up such a facade even around strangers? But he doesn't know that yet. He thinks that Kano laughing and cheering is a genuine reaction. He usually wouldn't mind it. He had felt that way himself at first two months ago.

It feels like it's been much longer.

...

Terry drops some more molotovs onto the Arctos and Onikuma while holding onto Kano's arm to make sure he doesn't fall. His jacket is probably weak and would probably tear if he moved too much. He gets out the serrated knife and stabs whichever Shadow comes near them.

They eventually make it to the third floor, but Vassago doesn't stop, immediately zooming to the castle replica. At least it's no longer cold.

If you don't want a speedrun, I can always leave you there to experience the full playthrough.

[ Which is obviously what neither of them probably want right now. They make it to the castle in time and Terry gets off Vassago and the dragon returns to his shadow, dropping Kano to the floor now that he no longer has anything to hold him captive. ]

One more floor to go.

[ He looks over at Kano. ]

Is the bear telling you anything?

[ Because if it isn't... well...

Terry takes out his kitchen knife again.
]

It tells you how to get to the next floor.

[ And, well. Terry isn't patient. There's a reason why he dragged Kano to the Dungeon for him to see for himself. He looks over at the bear quietly. Does it want more blood from him? After all he gave him before? Terry keeps staring at the bear as if to telepathically communicate with it, but he doesn't have that power. ]

If you're not telling me what it told you to get it to open, then I'll have to do what it told me to do.

[ The knife sure looks shiny. ]

If you say so.

[ Terry grabs Kano's arm and pulls him towards himself. The dull side of the blade rests against Kano's neck. ]

Mine is blood sacrifice. Are you sure mine is easier?

[ Though Terry is being awfully careful not to accidentally cut Kano in the process. He's absolutely terrible when grumpy, but he's still somewhat rational. Sorta. ]
