[Jiro is thinking along the same lines while he waits for Kano, and slowly tortures the swordsman. Kano hasn't killed him yet, but for them to fight instead of Jiro just sitting there and letting Kano kill him, Kano's cage has to open. Jiro would have to kill all of the others again. It's best to stick with this plan until he's run out of people to torture. If Kano can't figure out how to unlock the collar in that time, then he'll try and get Kano to fight him.
It's not Kano's memory, because he'd have found the way out by now. Jiro is starting to think that it might be one of his own fears that he wasn't really considering as such, some psychological bullshit, presented in some conceptual way. He does turn into a monster, and he does have a time limit before he dies if he can't control himself. But he doesn't fear dying, it's seen more as an inconvenience. It doesn't make sense.
The blades cut into his back, and he looks down at the man he's been absently jabbing with his claws. Oh, he's dead. Be right back with the samurai, Kano.]
