Kido is boring and uses her eye ability so nobody stares at her and Rei while they get changed. It's really just finding some corner or wall to stare at while she takes her clothes off since she wore her bathing suit under, and then tie her hair up into a ponytail too so it doesn't get everywhere. ]

[ Kido is still grabbing a towel and wrapping it around her shoulders though. They can focus on how cute Rei is instead. ]

[ in between all the death and suffering, rei is living out her best life by doing everything that she wasn't able to do before. rei will always grab a towel and mimic kido to put it over herself while they head over to the pool. she is immediately amazed. ]

Wowww, the pool is so big! I didn't know that they could get this big.

It's pretty big, huh? Sort of like the ocean, but we won't get carried off in here.

[ But also they're going to the kiddie pool first, to get swimming lessons. At least there aren't many people in here, compared to the large public pool.

The water is lukewarm when she sticks her toe inside. Nice. Freezing pool water is the worst and Kido steps inside. The water is barely up to her shoulders, but that's fine, it doesn't need to be very deep. ]

Alright, let's see how well you float.

[ rei watches kido step into the water, but she doesn't follow. she just stares down at the water. if it barely comes up to kido's shoulders, it might come up to rei's neck and that is Very Nerve-Wrecking for her. ]

Umm... how do I float?

[ if you say "do a dead man's float", rei's going to cry. ]

[ Minato would absolutely say that, but Kido has enough sense to keep Rei's face out of the water, at least. She wades up to the edge and holds her hand out for Rei to take. ]

We'll start with floating on your back. I'll keep a hand under you so you don't sink, and I'll hold your hand too if you need something to hang onto. All you have to do is breathe calmly, and the air in your lungs will help you float.

[ this is why kido is the neechan and minato is just a vice leader. ]

[ ahhhh that sounds kind of terrifying. she gets into the water and immediately, she's super nervous. it shows how tense she is and that she tightly holds onto kido's hand as she tries to float on her back, but her posture's bad and she breathes quickly so she'll just sink. ]

It's okay, Rei. Just relax.

[ Which is easier said than done, she knows, when you're seconds away from mortal peril at any time. It's the same feeling as being at the dentist's. She lifts her hand so Rei can feel her palm on her back at all times and have the security of that. ]

You don't have to have your body be perfectly straight, just relaxed. You can close your eyes and pretend that you're sleeping, if that helps. Just focus on me and my voice.

[ Kido's mom is a professional singer so I'm just going to say Kido can sing too. But instead of singing, she hums for Rei to listen to and focus on, to the tune of Terry's music box. ]

[ okay, she closes her eyes but then kido starts humming and she immediately goes !!! but yeah, it does help her relax. ]

[ Kido pauses in her humming to smile. ]

Yeah, I like it a lot.

[ it's a nice song when you don't know all the sad context behind it. It looks like Rei is relaxing too, so Kido moves her hand just a little, so that she's still touching Rei's back but not exactly holding her up anymore. ]

[ she nods her head a bit, but then goes right back to relaxing and pretending that she's asleep. she'll definitely fall asleep at this rate, though... ]

Me too. Your humming is also really nice. Can you also sing?

[ It's fine if she sleeps... maybe. They can just grab a lounge chair or something and Kido will hope Rei doesn't immediately go off to another pool thinking she knows how to swim now. ]

I guess... I don't sing all that often, though, so I don't know how good I'd be. What about you, Rei?

[ rei will immediately wander off thinking that she knows how to float and then she'll drown. there are so many ways that she can die before kido's dungeon. ]

Umm, I've never sung that much so I don't know much either, but I saw that they had a karaoke room in this bathhouse so we should check it out!

[ pre-shadow Kido: anything that happens when I'm not looking is Terrence's fault. He's the one who should be looking after all these kids. ]

I've never done karaoke before... But sure, after we've bathed and everything, let's go there. We can see about getting a small private room.

Yep, just like this. If you can float on your back, you can float on your stomach, and then all you have to do is kick your feet a little and you'll go forward.

[ Swimming!! Overly simplified swimming, but it's a small pool filled with people, so Rei should be okay. It's honestly good that Hirajiro doesn't have an ocean, or people will drown and we'll never find them. ]

[ she flips over and tries to do what kido said but this is so much easier said than done. rei doesn't know how to properly turn her head to breathe, her kicks can use work, what does she do with her arms, oh no, she's sinking. hirajiro doesn't need an ocean because rei is drowning right now. ]

Kido saves Rei from drowning by putting a hand under her stomach to lift her up, trying not to get kicked in the process. ]

[ she coughs a few times as she is brought up from drowning. she decides that maybe floating on her stomach is not a great idea and tries to stand back up in the pool. swimming is tough :( ]

[ she looks around and then spots one of those cute donut floaties that kids use. ]

[ Rei can just be an otter in the pool from now on. Stay floating on her back and keep her face out of the water. ]

[ Grab a floatie, but there's a non-zero chance that Rei might drown in the thirty seconds that Kido is gone picking out a floatie from the stack. She trusts Rei more on solid ground. ]
