12/3 Lockdown

The wind picks up at midnight, flowing through the streets but softened by the snowflakes that drift down from the sky. Over the full hour of Lockdown, the snowfall dampens the wind and makes it harder to follow the stream than before, blowing out from the forest and towards the center of town where a snowdrift builds up against the shut doors of the hospital's main entrance. Defeat the Daitengu, and the next dungeon appears the month after... During Lockdown, black blobs of Shadows continue to seep out of the hospital, shrine, lake, and school, but with the third Daitengu defeated, the wind doesn't howl as strongly and the snowfall is light, leaving the town dusted with snow the next morning that easily melts by mid-day. The town is cold, quiet, and still, almost as if holding its breath, but perhaps it's an illusion created by the townspeople staying indoors to keep out of the cold, and that everybody who had arrived from the alternate Hirajiro has been spirited away overnight, gone without fanfare by the time the wind dies down at the end of Lockdown. The only thing left behind is a complete deck of tarot cards with no duplicates, neatly stacked and set by the entrance of the honden, with a heavy stone on top to keep the cards from blowing away in the wind.

With the wind picking up around the shrine, a slow, deep ringing can be heard from a large bell that has been tied up above the offertory box with a thick rope, swinging with the wind; the offertory box itself is emptied of gemstones at the beginning of the month, but will slowly fill back up if the Persona users continue to donate the stones dropped by defeated Shadows, with the understanding that any boon they receive comes with strengthening the Kotengu as well. As if called by the toll of the bell, it seems like all of the crows in town have congregated around the shrine for the winter, perched on the rooftops, lit stone lanterns, and even the torii, all peering down at whoever enters the shrine and keeping an eye on them all the while they stand on sacred land. Although the crows seem unbothered by the ringing bell, the resident fox skitters away whenever it hears the noise, although it will always return when the wind dies down, or if the bell is otherwise bound and still. The sign that's supposed to contain the shrine deity's name still lacks the name, but this time, the sign is painted over with solid black, the paint layered on so thickly, you can see where the trails of paint are pulled to the bottom of the sign, under which dry spots of black paint can be seen before covered by the dusting of snow.

Near the path leading from the shrine to the castle, a large area of trees has been demolished in a vaguely serpentine shape, the trees lying splintered and fallen but far enough to pose no danger to the castle. Unlike the shrine, there are little to no crows that hang around the structure, the same two stories with the broken stairs up to the incomplete third floor becoming hazardous to climb with the falling snow and the wind that blows through the open windows of the second floor, making the castle howl. The throne sports a new cushion and a thick woollen blanket draped over the back of it, but with the ofuda door containing just the same two as before, the castle remains stuck in time, and the night goes on.

12/3 - 1/2 Town events

It snows on and off over the next few days, getting steadily colder as the month progresses. While the snow is powdery and easy to clear, there's a lot of it that piles right back up by the end of the day, creating a constant demand for help shoveling the roads around the neighborhoods and marketplace to keep them clear, although the Persona users will have to keep the path to the castle and shrine clear on their own, as none of the townspeople are concerned about the forest in general. In town, all the extra snow initially gets pushed towards the center to dump into the lake, but after the lake freezes over after the first week of the month, the excess snow gets piled into a large hill and packed down to be perfect for sledding, with makeshift sleds ranging from laundry baskets to trash can lids left lying around for people to grab and slide— and pray they don't veer off course and crash straight through the ice covering the lake. A Persona may be able to thicken the ice and make it safer to skate on, but in the meanwhile, people will just have to watch out for the spots where the ice is thin and easily broken. Please don't fall in, unless it's near midnight and you fall straight into a random floor of the lake dungeon.

Strings of plain white Christmas lights adorn the trees in town and around the outskirts where it borders the forest, leaving the entire town lit with a soft glow after sundown. Throughout town, the decorations are similarly subtle, with fancier decorations seen in storefronts rather than people's homes, and instead of a single Christmas tree towering over the town, a set of four smaller trees line the back of a large stage set on the lakefront across the school building, which has made its appearance for summer festivals in the past. Surrounding the stage are many stalls that make up a holiday craft market that will be open all month. For a small fee, anybody can purchase a spot at the craft market to sell their own crafts, most of which are intended to be decorations for people's homes or to be given as gifts for Christmas and the New Year. Among the crafts are traditional gifts like knit scarves and sweaters, as well as clay figurines, beaded crafts, painted plates, and any manner of handmade items people have to offer. Although the main focus of the market is for crafts, there are also stalls selling refreshments such as hot chocolate and baked goods.

On the stage itself, each of the four trees is topped with a bird-like angel painted in soft reds, blacks, and golds, and rather than lights and ornaments, the trees have emas hung on the branches, with wishes written on the small wooden plaques. While emas are traditionally hung at a shrine for the kami to receive them, the emas here are for the community to offer and receive: for every wish you hang up, you're encouraged to take at least one other ema and fulfill that wish in return. Some of the wishes are very general, such as asking people to do good deeds to make the world a better place, wishing for the exams at school to be a little easier next year, or hoping everybody in the hospital will get better. Other wishes are more personal, such as wanting to learn a new skill, receive a certain toy, or help cleaning out a basement, and these personal wishes contain the person's name and contact information to indicate who to report to grant the wish. Not all wishes can be granted directly, but the effort put towards them still counts. There is no payment or other incentives to fulfill multiple wishes other than good karma, which will surely be returned to you in the new year.

MOD NOTES

⬥ Each character may make one free ema wish in the top-level below and the mods will reply with how the wish is fulfilled. Note that personal wishes will be signed for everybody to see, and while ICly all wishes will be fulfilled by the townspeople and not the Kotengu, for this first wish, a crow will occasionally swoop down and take an ema, so you guys can get your stat boosts and skill upgrades.
⬥ Additional ema wishes may be made for every thread reported that involves fulfilling one of the townspeople's wishes and must have a minimum of 5 comments from you. There is no limit to how many ema wishes that can be made, but all threads are due by 1/3/2020 when January's dungeon log goes up. These extra wishes will be fulfilled by the townspeople, so they might not know what to do with wishes like "+1 to all stats." You are still welcome to try, though, and they will do their best.
⬥ Part 2 of December's event will go up on 12/15 to encompass Christmas, New Years, and tragedy.
⬥ This month, the full moon occurs on 12/11 - 12/13. While Personas are stronger around the time of the full moon, they are more difficult to control and may behave strangely and disobey orders around these dates. This is an optional mechanic.

[ That's fair and she can do that. On the days she feels like sitting here at Toki's stalls, she can have sparkly thread to embroider names on the sweaters while people wait around. ]

Yeah, see, that's why you're the head, so we can have good ideas like that. Cats wouldn't want their ears covered, so we'll have to account for holes. Maybe we can have mittens on the side, in case their paws get cold.

[Jiro laughs at that name. From "eater of the sun" to "red bean paste". How far Rago has fallen.]

That's a great name!

[Rago kneeds the air in front of him. Put him down or hold him properly.]

Why don't we find Anko-chan some cream or something and get you a hot chocolate.

[He will make up for leaving Kido when she was freaking out and turning invisible.]

[personal profile] reveilation 2019-12-03 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ "Eater of the sun" is a stupid name, and Kido likes red bean paste, so this is a much better name and she'll call him that from now on even after she grows up again. At least she takes pity on Rago now, holding him close and beaming over the top of his head, because she got praised and she has a cute cat in her arms and since she gave the cat a name, that means she partially owns it or something. A good day. ]

Yeah!

[ She is not going to drink hot chocolate given to her by a stranger. But as long as it means she can hold onto the cat, she'll follow the stranger around and spend his money. ]

Kitten mittens~!

[It's a very good idea. Toki takes a little notebook out of his bag, and starts sketching mitten ideas. Some can have bells or ribbons. It will be great.]

[personal profile] cicadashell 2019-12-03 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rago is appeased for the moment, settling himself against Kido and waiting for the day to end.

Jiro doesn't care if she actually has any hot chocolate, just as long as Kido's not wandering around by herself or crying. He'll take her to the craft market, and if she does want something, she can pick it out herself and it won't be suspicious or tainted.]

I. 12/5 - personality flip

[ Terry had been missing on the third and fourth because he'd been stuck in Rei's dungeon for those two days. It was a nightmare. Maybe that's why he looks so sapped of energy when he comes back. He seems indifferent, uncaring, and absolutely lazy.

A) He'll be at home, lounging on the couch or on his bed while doing nothing. Want dinner? Make it yourself. Want some money? Get it yourself. He hasn't eaten anything all day, and frankly, he doesn't give two fucks. Black Cat House (I) has a kotatsu and he sure is gonna hibernate in it, despite being sensitive to heat. Orien the snake had been looking at Terry disapprovingly ever since he got back.

B) Maybe you'll find him outside, roaming the town with a hoodie jacket, a navy blue hat, and long pants. It's an aimless walk, and he sure did call in sick for this. He looks up at the four trees with the emas hanging off them. A flock of crows follow him. Some perch on his head and shoulders.

"So are we making wishes to the dead Daitengus instead of the Kotengu now...?"

is what he mutters under his breath.
]

II. 12/6-10: heat sensitivity, ema wishes, and craft fair

[ Terry got over his "lethargy" in a day, but he's been getting anxious. Anyway, you'll find him in several places:

A) Working at a maid cafe or at his pinpointing stand. Pay him to find things for you.

B) Working on granting wishes on the emas. He ends up plucking a lot of romance-related ones for some reason. He has crows in his jacket until the 8th. They also bundle up for warmth as he goes here and there. He's really busy...

C) Drinking some hot chocolate at the craft fair, but it's too hot and he's still sensitive to heat and he looks like he wants to melt into a puddle.
]

III. 12/11-15: ✨✨✨

[ This is a wildcard variation because Terry will be extremely happy for four days. He'll even give off imaginary sparkles. You can find him either at work being a super peppy maid/butler, smiling while he works at his pinpointing stand, or generally spreading the holiday cheer while granting ema wishes and getting Vassago to use Vacuum Wave to clear the snow. He'll even be sliding on the ice on the frozen lake. ]

wildcard

[ Other than that, he's also up for school/lake Dungeon runs. He can make a hole so people can dive in, but is that really a good idea when it's freakishly cold outside? The second floor was always cold though... I guess it's no different. His bonus schedule looks like this:

12/1-4: end sentences with nya
12/2-8: flock of crows follow him
12/5-10: sensitive to heat
12/5: 180 personality switch
12/9-15: cannot lie
12/11-15: extremely happy terry

If you got any other prompts, hit me up! He also lost his left pinky and left ring fingers from Rei's dungeon. :') Feel free to have your character notice that.

2, 12/4

[personal profile] defragment 2019-12-04 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ 45 came to check this place out and spots Toki stuffing cat plates in his bag. Hmmmmm. She tries to sneak up behind him and pats his shoulders. ]

To~ki! What you got there?
Edited 2019-12-04 00:22 (UTC)

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-12-04 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Toki jumps at the sudden touch, almost dropping his last plate.]

Itsuki!

[He fumbles with the plate before holding it up for her inspection.]

They're for Hana-chan~!
defragment: (pic#13607983)

[personal profile] defragment 2019-12-04 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see~ Good thing you didn't drop them.

[ Would have been a shame. 45 smiles. ]

They're cute. I'm sure she'd like them. [ Being the cat fanatic she is... ]

I heard you were selling cat sweaters?

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-12-04 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I think she will! She loves cats so much!

[More than he does. He fishes around in his bag for a cat sweater sample. It's a burnt orange cable knit.]

Yes! Cat sweaters~! Feel it, it's so soft and warm for all your cat's winter needs~!

[A sales pitch.]
defragment: (pic#13495446)

[personal profile] defragment 2019-12-04 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hm~

[ 45 feels the sweater a bit. It's not like Velvet Room cats need sweaters, but they should be festive, probably. She wouldn't mind hearing jingle bells in infinite loop if it gets rid of the "you fucked up" on repeat.

...

Guess she'll have to bribe.
]

I'll take ten.

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-12-04 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Toki is clearly very excited at such a large purchase.]

Ten!? Okay! Do you have color preferences or patterns you prefer? And Hana-chan wants to make hoods on the next batch with pompoms and we can embroider the cats' names if you want!

[He puts the sweater and the plate away, to grab a notebook from the bag instead.]
defragment: (pic#13495429)

[personal profile] defragment 2019-12-04 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Surprise me.

[

...

45 looks very amused.
]

I want to see what kind of designs you'll come up with. Don't worry about name embroidering. When will they be ready?

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-12-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
They will be ready tomorrow~!

[Now Kido has to help him all night to fulfill this order. Toki will make sure 45's cats get only the best color combinations and at least two will have the hoods.]
defragment: (pic#13495427)

[personal profile] defragment 2019-12-04 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Great! How much are they? I'll pay half of it up front and the other half when they're done. Sounds good?

[ She hopes this will work... ]

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-12-04 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
That's totally fine~! I trust you!

[Kido won't, but she's not here. Toki doesn't have a set price on the sweaters, and has been giving people random quotes throughout the day.]

The price is... ћ700 per unit, so...

[A minute later...]

ћ4600~!
defragment: (pic#13495443)

[personal profile] defragment 2019-12-04 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ That... doesn't feel like it quite adds up, but that's fine. 45 hands him the money. ]

I'll be here to pick them up tomorrow then! Are you selling anything else?
overstrain: * (pic#13280493)

[personal profile] overstrain 2019-12-04 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's signed! And... yeah... dying doesn't count as getting sick. It's basically a generic "I wish them good health" stuff.

[personal profile] yokeye 2019-12-04 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe in the future~!

[He takes her money and puts it away in his plush Rilakkuma bag. It's stuffed full of cash already.]

We're thinking about mittens! For cats!
defragment: (pic#13527202)

[personal profile] defragment 2019-12-04 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Considering how this town is crazy about cats, 45 thinks it's pretty smart for Toki to open up a business targeting them. ]

Don't they walk all funny if their feet are covered?
