[ On Christmas day, all the Persona users have been invited over to the Black Cat Clubhouse to get together and celebrate the fact that we all miraculously made it to see Christmas, somehow. The kotatsu has been brought over from next door so that there are two sitting in the middle of the living room with enough space to comfortably fit a dozen people, more if squashed together, and the rest of the house is toasty warm from all the cooking and baking that was done over the hours prior. Set on the dining room table in buffet style is an assortment of traditional Christmas food (according to Google), such as fried chicken, potato salad, fancy wagashi, and strawberry shortcake Christmas cake, along with traditional actual dinner items for people who want actual food, like sushi, sukiyaki, grilled fish, curry on rice, and croquettes.

There's a karaoke machine set in the living room alongside a projector for movies, if anybody even knows what a VCR player is to be able to connect the two and show movies, and the snow is falling pretty heavily over the afternoon and evening for those who want to go out and play. Have snowball fights! Or build snowmen and igloos! Or destroy said snowmen and igloos with snowballs! For anybody being too disruptive, or is antisocial and trying to hide, you're liable to be hit by a Wolvaan spell that turns you into a cute dog so people can swarm you for hugs and pets instead. The culprit is a happy little golden retriever trotting around the house that goes by the name of Ala. Please pet her too.

If there's alcohol or mistletoe at this party, somebody else is going to have to step up and take responsibility.

[Well, explosions on the upper world during Lockdown are usually worth investigating, but it becomes apparent pretty quickly what they actually are. The children have gotten their hands on even more dangerous explosives. There are clearly some pretty big rockets pointed in the air, but no one's set them off yet; most of the kids are more preoccupied with the smaller, faster-moving ones right now.]

[Cyrus remembers these. It's been a long time since he's ever seen one, but he clearly remembers these. Everyone lighting sparklers and rockets on the beach on summer nights. Cyrus never joined them, he never had time for that, so all he heard was the sounds outside his window.]

[But Honchkrow is chattering in his ear. Even if Cyrus tries to send him back into his Pokéball, he'll just pop back out and continue chattering, because these shiny objects have captured his limited attention span. If the bird's gesturing is to be believed, he really wants to see the big one.]

...You are insufferable.

[ Oh, a new person! Rei hasn't seen him yet so she'll run up to the suspicious man with a giant bird. Earlier in the year, she would have been too shy to do that but now she has No Fears. ]

You must be new. I'm Rei!

[Rei, out here living her best life. Cyrus, instantly regretting his decision to come.]

I am new, yes. Cyrus is my name.

[Honchkrow is now staring eagerly at Rei. Specifically, the plastic and metal flower clips in her hair.]

Please forgive our interruption. Loud noises and colorful objects draw Honchkrow to them.

[ Now that he's met Rei, he cannot escape. On the flipside, now that Honchkrow is staring at her flower clips, maybe she can't escape either... she does not take notice that she's being stared at. ]

Oh, is Honchkrow your Persona?

Honchkrow is a Pokémon. A living flesh-and-blood creature like any other.

[It's annoying to Cyrus how many times he has to explain this to people. It used to be astounding, because to be honest he's spent his entire life taking Pokémon for granted as things that exist, but after about two weeks here it's just an inconvenience when he has to explain to people why his pet bird is so loud and obnoxious.]

I take it you've never heard that word before.

No, I've heard it before because Red has Pokemon too!

[ Rei also has one but she doesn't know that it's actually a Pokemon. Her Teddiursa is running around somewhere... I'll have him appear soon. ]

I didn't know there were so many different kinds. His look a lot more different than yours.

Ah, yes, Red.

[The two of them did meet before at the party. But Cyrus was a Herdier at the time so let's not bring that up now, or indeed ever.]

To my knowledge, he and I have seven Pokémon between us. At last count, the number of discovered species of Pokémon was at 890, and there are more being discovered yearly.

[He doesn't sound glad to answer them for her, but then again, he doesn't sound like much of anything.]

890?! There are that many Pokemon?!

[ She did not think that there were so many. Maybe they're like animals in Cyrus and Red's world? Hmm. She's curious. ]

Umm, how do you get a Pokemon? Is it like getting a pet?

How many animals are there in your world?

[Yeah.]

Some receive them as pets, or breed them. Some catch them in the wild. Some buy them.

Umm, I don't know, but I don't think as many as that! You can do so many different things with them!

[ The only reason why she doesn't think that the normal world doesn't have as many animals is because she only knows the ones in her books. They're all the common ones that a kid would know. She was going to continue and ask even more questions, but this is when Teddiursa decides to make an appearance. He's hungry and all the loud noises are scaring him, so he slips out of the house and runs up to her. Without a second wasted, she immediately bends down to pick him up and hold him in her arms. Okay, back to the topic at hand. ]

I think we can also catch animals in the wild, but they're dangerous so we normally shouldn't.

[Immediately Cyrus is looking at the little bear as he toddles out. Rei has no idea what she's holding; she probably can't even distinguish it from an animal in her world. Meaning her frame of reference is limited for both.]

...That, what you're holding, is a Pokemon. It's a Teddiursa.

Where did you find it?

[ She looks down at Teddiursa. He looks back then glances over at Cyrus, though he quickly retreats back into Rei's jacket because that man looks pretty scary!! She then looks up at Cyrus. ]

No, he's not. He's a bear! Though um, he got dropped from the sky?

Perhaps ask Red about it.

[Cyrus is not going to have this discussion with her, so he shoves the burden of proving it's a Pokémon onto the only other Trainer he's met. This is incredibly stupid.]

Did he, perchance, come with a ball?

[He holds up Honchkrow's, just as a little visual aid.]

Oh, he did!

[ Now that Red is turning into a zombie, Rei will have to continue to bother Cyrus :) ]

He sometimes goes inside it, but he often doesn't. He actually appeared from that ball when he fell from the sky.

[Wordlessly, Cyrus taps the Pokéball to Honchkrow's side. He goes inside immediately, and a moment later Cyrus sends him out again. Honchkrow seems annoyed at the interruption, but it doesn't last long; he glides off somewhere into the trees and settles down, watching the other fireworks.]

It's called a Pokéball.

[After a moment, he looks down at Rei with a sort of judgmental frown.]

Try to keep it intact.

[ She lets out a :O!!!! face because she never actually used the Pokeball. She occasionally saw Teddiursa go in and out, but she never knew that she could control it. ]

Wow, I didn't know you could do that! Are Pokeballs hard to fix? Is that why I should keep it intact?

[ His judgemental frown doesn't work on her. ]
