1/11 training and breakfast

[ As last minute prep for the dungeon, everybody has been called to get together for a training session during midnight at Lockdown, with promise of a light breakfast at the clubhouse afterwards and the suggestion that people take it easy during the day before they split up into their respective teams and head to the castle and the mountains.

Training is largely done in the school shrine, on the second floor where there's wide empty space without the maze to account for, where you can practice tactics together, or take on the Minato challenge where he has Messiah blast you apart in half a second and then immediately heals you and asks if you want to go again.

Breakfast at the clubhouse is split between western and traditional styles, whether you crave fluffy pancakes, or are more of a miso soup and grilled fish on rice sort of person. If you want anything in particular for lunch, Kido is on lunch duty and promises to make whatever you want, so long as you go out to the store and bring the ingredients back.

Thanks to everybody's efforts so far during the month, whether it's interacting with the townspeople or talking with the mayor or donating gemstones to the mountain shrine, the effects can already be seen around town, with the townspeople less wary of the Persona users, allowing them to purchase what they want in the stores if they want to have their own supplies to take into the dungeon later.

[ You know what's dangerous? Giving Rei a very dangerous weapon that can be easily mishandled. Yeah, so guess what she's holding two of. ]

Umm, does anyone know how to use crossbows?

[ She needs to shoot someone. ]

[ At some other time, Rei has gotten Zen's cape. She just needs to get his edgy spiked collar and the outfit would be complete. ]

Ehehe, now I'm like Zen!

[ She strikes a pose, but aw, now she really misses him :( after her pose, she will deflate a bit. ]

[ I am so desperate for Rei threads. Give them to me. ]

i. training

[Toki's first attempt at training was right after the jailhouse meeting. The next day, he and Rei made the horrible decision of training in the shrine dungeon. It was a very time. After that, Toki was arrested for arson, there was a dead bear in the police station, and he'd bad a very bad three days of paranoia. Barring one good day with a indoor picnic, Toki's week has sucked. It continues to suck, because he's here to train... somehow. He's exhausted already and he just got here.

He has a pike he grabbed from the castle, and along with his tenuous psychic link with Joroko, this is all he has going for him.]


ii. breakfast

[Toki opts for the fish and rice. He's been trying to perfect the art of making edible pancakes and has eaten so many burned ones over the last few days that the smell of them makes his stomach churn. He won't finish what he does take, and might fall asleep instead.]

[Somehow, Toki has made it over here.]

Minato~! So, how do we do this? I just like try to stab you with it?

[He holds up the pike. He has the wrong idea perhaps, that Minato is lazy like Toki and they can basically fake-spar and put in minimal effort.]

[ If Toki wants something immovable to stab, he can stab a tree. ...It might not be a bad idea, just to practice getting his form down and working on following through, but Minato is not the person to ask about teaching people proper technique. He can use a variety of weapons, but none are actually used correctly.

As long as it works, he's good with it. As long as Toki can fight, it doesn't matter how terribly. ]

That's right. I'll be empty handed, but won't stay in the same place. You try to stab me by following the sound of my voice or whatever.

[ He can be generous and start off easy mode. ]

[ Wei Wuxian has both a gently used (and damaged) sword on him and a handmade bow and arrow set. ]

I'll give free lessons to whoever wants to learn something! I can't show you anything fancy with the sword though.

[ Unfortunately, there will be no flying swords. ]

ii - breakfast;

[ Now that they can buy things again, Wei Wuxian spends some of his limited funds on a container of red chili powder that he pulls out from somewhere in his robes. He puts an alarming amount on whatever he grabs for breakfast. Nothing is safe. ]

iii - wildcard;

[ Hit me up with whatever! I'm open to all shenanigans! ]

Okay!

[Toki nods to himself. He can do this. He hit Shadows with a baseball bat in the shrine dungeon. He is prepared... except he's not exactly sure how to hold a pike. It's originally gripped like the baseball bat, but that won't work for stabbing. Toki shifts his hands so the pike is sort of held above his shoulder like a hunting spear. He's going with that.]

[ Minato nods back, silent. He also takes two steps to the left, also silent, moving at the same time Toki's shifting his grip so the rustling of his own clothes masks whatever Minato's doing a couple of paces away.

He's quiet and still, waiting for Toki to make the first move. ]

[yokeye]

[It takes Toki half a minute to realize he's supposed to do something. He never heard Minato moving, and wasn't even listening for it at the time.]

Die, Shadow!

[Toki simply lunges at where he thinks Minato still is. And not remembering how tall Minato is, so he has no idea where he's aiming; stomach, chest, throat? It doesn't matter, because he's only stabbing air.]

[ Ala is in the dungeon for training, but less for training as she is for gathering up all the little gemstones that drop to the ground when somebody kills a Shadow. She does her part by charming the Chimeras into attacking the other Shadows and doing the work for her, so they can clear out the entire floor first to make sure there'd ample space for sessions with the Attendants, but if you kill a Shadow right in front of her? There she goes, swooping right in to nab up that stone. ]

[ A whole day of rest and relaxation... sounds fake... Once they're all back inside the clubhouse, Ala takes residence at the kotatsu, which is her favorite place in either house and she really hopes they'll leave them up even when winter comes to an end and it starts to get warmer. They can have the air conditioning running, and also the kotatsu! Kotatsus are the best.

Whether you brought breakfast over to eat here, or are just resting somewhere that'll keep your toes toasty warm, Ala's claiming more than half the table space, holding a set of tarot cards in her hand that she received from Akira for Christmas. ]

[Akira is mentally prepared to have his ass soundly handed to him from this exercise, but he approaches Minato anyway. Mostly because he wants to see what happens and how long they can all hold out against the smell of burning bread.]

Hey. I heard you're offering training.

[He knows that Minato is offering training, of course, but he wants to give the guy an out to be polite.]

[Toki is here to attempt to be useful, though he doesn't expect to get far. At least he's making minimal effort by showing up, and he does have some drive towards being able to protect his wife in the dungeons. He's close enough when Wei Wuxian offers lessons to wander over.]

I will take those lessons~!

[And maybe die.]

[ Toki stabs nothing but air, but that brings him close enough to Minato that he doesn't even have to take another step to reach out and swiftly tap the side of Toki's neck with his hand before ducking out of the way— long strides at the exact same timing as Toki's steps to get out of range of that pike again.

If Toki's Shadow had a sword, Toki would have a slit throat already. ]

[Toki screams when Minato touches him, and turns around to jab the pike in that direction repeatedly.]

[ Minato shrugs, quiet, no weapons in his hand this time around, but the Velvet Room is on the first floor where he can easily duck in and grab anything people want to square off against, whether that's a sword, a laser gun, or just Minato's Personas. ]

Sorta training. You learn the most from failures, right?

[ 'cause Akira, and everybody else, is going to fail against him. ]

[ Toki repeatedly stabs nothing but air, Minato moving behind him and poking a foot at the back of Toki's right knee to make it buckle. ]

[yokeye]

[Toki goes down easily, falling hard onto his knees and letting go of the pike. Instead of feeling around for it and trying to get back up, like he knows he should because it's training and not real, he covers his head with his arms and screams again.]

[compendiem]

[ ...Minato picks up the pike, turns it around so the blunt end is facing Toki, and pokes him on an exposed part of his face. This will be the third time Toki potentially dies, in the span of less than a minute. ]

[yokeye]

[Toki instinctively grabs for the end of the pike, and if he's successful, he'll shove it forward. He hasn't thought about any of these failures as "deaths" and doesn't realize that's the point of them.]

[compendiem]

[ Minato's surprised when Toki grabs the pike; the other end of it is to the side of Minato's face so he doesn't get stabbed, and his grip is strong enough that the pike simply moves backwards a little. It's not dislodged from his grip, so he just brings it back down and pokes Toki again. ]

[yokeye]

[Toki uses more force this time, springing up from the ground and turning a little to one side in hopes of hitting Minato this time. He will stab something today. Maybe.

Though he never hears Minato move, there's something he does notice. Chains. Faintly in the background, and then closer. The Reaper has arrived.]

[ Oh hell—-

YEAH

Minato pulls the pike out of Toki's grip, and places his other hand on Toki's wrist to turn him towards the exit to the floor, speaking up for the first time since the session started. ]

Lesson's over. I'm borrowing this. The Reaper's here, so I'm going to need you to run away if you want to stay alive. Or stay and summon Joroko for the experience, but you have to stay way back.

[yokeye]

What's the Reaper!? Like Death!? I thought this was the safer dungeon!

[And Minato took his weapon. Toki doesn't move for a moment, undecided if he should run or stay. He wants to run, but he should be strong and try to fight this thing with Joroko. The blood is rushing in his ears as every scenario plays out in his head. He'd died so easily in Akira's dungeon, even with Joroko.

This is training. It's not the Daitengu. He can run. His presence is more likely to get someone else killed than it is to be any sort of help. But he can't run. He can't move. And the chains get louder. What does he do!?]

Yeah. But there is no safe dungeon.

[ Minato probably should have left the weapon with Toki so he has something to defend himself with, but he didn't think it'd matter because he's asking Toki to stay back either way.

It doesn't matter if Toki can't decide right now or if he can't move; there'll be times when a threat is approaching and Toki will be stuck between whether to fight or run, but Minato doesn't have that same hesitation. When it comes to a fight, he's confident, walking away from Toki without another word so he can meet the Reaper deeper in the dungeon instead of standing around and waiting for it to come here.

This time, Minato's steps fall heavy on the ground, loud enough for Toki to hear he's being left behind. It's okay if he stays back. You can jump into a fight at any time. You can run away from a fight at any time too. ]

[yokeye]

[There is no safe dungeon. There is no safe dungeon. Minato's fading footsteps ring ominously. It's enough for Toki to move. He runs straight ahead towards the exit.]
