[open] i don't have a clever title like haki's but whatever
i. 7/17 (bgm)
[ How did this happen...
Kido loves cats. She really does. But she does not like this one specific cat chasing after her with a knife in its mouth and unrelentingly following her for the past four blocks. Is this karma for not stopping on the street to give it head scratches?? ]
Ugh, stop it!
[ She turns on her heels to confront the cat, stomping her feet on the ground in an effort to scare it into dropping the knife or running away, but all the cat does is prance closer and make stabby moves at her ankles. ]
Drop it right now, cat! You're going to trip and hurt yourself and—
[ slice up her ankles, cool cool cool ]
ii. 7/18-7/21
[ Anywhere around town or the outskirts near the forest or the lake, maybe you're out here enjoying some quiet and alone time watching the crows fly overhead, and then all of the sudden something falls from the sky and it's not quiet and alone anymore and Kido appears out of thin air holding her head and screaming at the sky.
This just sort of happens throughout the next couple of days, an unusual number of crows circling the town and Kido suddenly appearing where there definitely was nobody standing there before, trying to fend off things falling from the sky. Some of them are cool, like an mp3 player or a charger cord, but then there's also an umbrella and after that, Kido starts carrying that around to protect her head from falling objects. It sort of helped with the dartboard except that was really heavy and still hurt, and the three darts that accompanied it punctured the umbrella and now it's useless in the rain.
Another crow lands on her shoulder and drops a stack of bills amounting to ¥10,000 onto her lap. ...The bills get stuffed into her pocket and this crow gets a head pat before it flies off.
But not this last one, who keeps trying to deliver Kido a pair of glasses that she immediately turns and yeets into the middle of the lake. The crow flies over and plucks it out of the water and brings it back before Kido can run away. Maybe it thinks they're playing fetch. Kido does not want this. ]
iii. 7/17-7/22, Lockdown
[ The only reprieve that Kido gets from the weirdly aggressive animals in the town is during Lockdown, when the only birds she has to worry about are the Shadows overhead. Unlike her first few days here, she's much less scared of them than before— not that she's gotten any better or more confident at fighting, but because she does not need to. ]
Hey, let's team up.
[ She makes this request at the school gates, a key swinging on her finger. No more hopping fences. ]
I can guarantee you that we can walk through to the end of this place without being noticed or attacked. If you want to fight, I can guarantee the first strike. But either way, I need others around to discuss what we should do.
[ It's late into the month. Everybody else in the town seems to have slowed to a crawl, this place has not disappeared yet, and a there's also that gate at the very end that they can't get through. They have to do something about this. ]

[ Contact me at
birdseed for anything you need!
For prompt iii: this can be either a one-on-one thread, or a group of two characters + Kido! Essentially she's getting them through the dungeon by using her canon ability to make them unable to be heard or seen, and then leeching off their kills bc her Persona has growth 3 and can gain experience doing nothing haha ]

[ Hmmm. She squints a little, but all she can make them out to be are just wispy things. She hasn't summoned her persona yet, so that's all they'll be to her as of now. ]
Are they sensitive to their surroundings? Perhaps you can see them better than I can...
no subject
So she takes the omamori from her pocket and runs her thumb over "EMPEROR", the air around them chilling as Nekogami rises from her shadow before taking to the maze and disappearing straight through the walls. ]
If you have yours on you, give it a try too.
no subject
Just touching it doesn't summon an ethereal cat... Is there anything else I need to do to bring mine out?
[ It's cute though. ]
no subject
[ She's not sure. She usually does have a purpose in mind whenever she does things, rather than idly standing there. ]
I suppose you can try asking it to come out? Will it into existence.
[ These are very unhelpful directions, but it's not like any of them ever got an instruction manual. ]
no subject
Whatever... or whoever you are inside this charm. Please come out.
[ A quiet request, but effective. RO's shadow gathers up into the omamori and it summons Astraea, the goddess of justice, innocence, purity and precision. RO looks up, wide-eyed, at Astraea as her persona just kinda giggles and waves at them both.
...
Not the strangest thing she's experienced, but. Okay. ]
I wonder if I could develop a command module for this being too.
no subject
[ Kido breathes out her admiration for RO's Persona. Astraea is beautiful, and Kido belatedly raises a hand to return the greeting. What does it say about the two of them when RO's Persona is a goddess and Kido's is a lapcat... ]
You might not need one, to tell her what to do. But an easier way to summon without worrying about losing the charm would probably be useful.
no subject
[ It's okay, Kido... your persona is cute. Astraea disappears, since there's no other use currently other than being summoned to show off her existence. ]
... That's interesting. It uses our own shadows in order to manifest. Are the other-- [ Oh, they're no longer all wispy anymore. She can see them clearly now that she summoned her persona for the first time. ] ... shadow creatures something along the lines of unpurified versions of the ones we summon?
no subject
I don't know. They're not summoned by... anybody... [ she trails off, silent for a moment as something hits her, and she really really hopes she's wrong about it. ]
...But at night, when they show up, everybody in town disappears. I don't know if that has something to do with it, or if it's a coincidence, but...
no subject
If that's the case...
[ --She can't attack them. Even though its just a theory, her programming has been built around not directly harming humans and protecting them even at the cost of her own life. To destroy shadows that could be transformed humans is just... ]
... it's an interesting theory, and one I must prove or disprove as soon as possible. I don't think there has been a noticeable population decline in the town since I have come here, but it hasn't been that long...
no subject
Not a population decline, but there's some sort of illness going around, I think. When our Personas are defeated, we don't die, but it still hurts. Maybe it's the same with these monsters somehow.
no subject
And it may be a similar link with the townspeople with the shadow creatures... possibly being connected with a recent spreading illness...
[ She sighs. ]
I would hate to admit it, but that sounds plausible than any other theory I would have come up with. I don't mean offense when I say that I don't want it to be true, but my programming doesn't allow me to directly harm humans. If it starts equating humans to these shadow creatures... you get the picture.
no subject
It's not just the people, but the animals disappear too. Actually, they all sort of look like birds, or parts of birds. So it might not be related to the missing people at all.
[ It's a stretch and she knows, but she was really hoping to have RO's expertise on their side, if at all possible, at the cost that if this new theory is the one that holds more water, Kido's right back at square one of not knowing where any of the people could have gone. ]
no subject
... It's fine to hold onto your theory. As long as I don't see a direct link, I should be fine.
[ In order to test whether she can still attack one or not, she sees a shadow bird, far from the others. It would have been nice to order someone to snipe it down, but there are no rifles here nor there. Gotta do it on her own. She twiddles the omamori between her fingers and then grasps it in the palm of her hand, summoning Astraea once more. This time, upon her summoning, Kido's persona, wherever it may be now, might feel a surge of an offensive buff.
When the raven gets close enough to the ground, Astraea takes her chance and slaps it to the ground with her hand as if swatting a fly. This is her version of a Lunge, apparently. RO sighs out of relief in expense of that raven that got decimated by the power of Astraea's slap. ]
I can still do it. My programming is the same as before.
no subject
...Impressive. [ She needed that pause to bite down a laugh— because who goes out there and just punches a bird to the ground??— but it is very impressive, especially thinking back to when she'd first encountered the Shadows and spent the majority of the hour screaming and running and occasionally taking pod shots at the monsters when she's able to remember her Persona exists and can fight. ]
You took it down so easily, too. That's very reassuring.
no subject
[ She thinks that's strange, since it's... just a bird. Do they usually have superarmor?? High evasion rates? ]
no subject
Hm... I suppose for those who aren't used to just going for it, it would be difficult to kill another living thing.
[ She also supposes some people aren't scared of monsters, or have confidence in their soul monster that they've just met two seconds ago. ]
no subject
I see...
[ She didn't consider them as "living", but they seem to be a threat to humans, so. They must be eradicated. Sounds like a simple line of reasoning. ]
I suppose that's a fair assumption to make. Not everyone is made to fight things.
no subject
[ Most people aren't, she thinks. Taking another life is hard, and one would normally hesitate unless they had no other choice— she'll just have to think of this as one of those desperate times, a life or death situation just like back then. ]
But if we're the only ones awake and can deal with this situation, we'll learn. We'll get stronger, and we'll all fight together.
no subject
[ It's nice to have someone like that, she thinks, since it's easy for morale to tank in these kinds of situations due to an unexpected occurrence. ]
no subject
[ Kido's quick to wave her off and shake her head, because there's no way she's anything like that— she neither plans to or wants to be any sort of leader in this situation, only taking on the mantle by necessity or if the people involved are the people she's closest to and needs to protect. But morale? She's never been the mood maker, she's sort of the opposite of that. ]
no subject
[ Everyone who has a Persona now is no mere civilian, as deemed by RO now. ]
no subject
[ Please do not mistake her for any sort of soldier, even if she's doing something like this. ]
no subject
[ She's not going to turn anyone into soldiers, nor is it her intention, but even that's too much for RO, so she'll just settle on this label. ]
no subject
...Something like that, I suppose. I don't think a title is necessary. We're all just people capable of doing something about this, since there's nobody else around. If we're the only ones who can do it, we should probably do it.
no subject
[ Just. Sidesteps an incoming bird dive. Evasion sure is handy. ]
... We should continue moving. Staying in one place paints a target on ourselves.
