[OPEN] clever titles are for squares
ɪ. ʟᴀᴛᴇ ᴀᴛ ɴɪɢʜᴛ
[ it's a little after one in the morning when rei is back on the streets. coming from the direction of the hospital, her shoulders are hung low, her head is cast downwards, and her steps are slow. it's as if she's just simply dragging herself along. perhaps it wouldn't be anything to be concerned about. after all, maybe it was just a long night in the dungeon. ]
[ ... maybe that would have been the case if she wasn't covered in dried blood. ]
[ her shirt and skirt are ruined with a dark crimson colour and there's a very unfortunate small blood splatter across her face (cover your mouth when you cough, terry...). whether or not the blood bothers her, it's not like she can do much about it right now. she just continues to walk down the street, almost as if in some sort of trance. she doesn't pay attention to where she's heading and it's honestly more than likely that any of the following would happen: ]
[ a: she walks straight into a pole. ]
[ b: she walks straight into a person (you). ]
[ c: she walks right into the forest because she's not paying attention and i guess i'll have a bear eat her or something. ]
ɪɪ. ᴇᴀʀʟʏ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴏʀɴɪɴɢ
[ the next morning, rei isn't doing much better. she has thrown out her clothes so she's back to wearing her original school uniform, but she has thrown on a black and tattered cape over herself, though. hm. well, whatever she's happy with. ]
[ she's still in a trance, though, so the following will happen again: ]
[ a: she walks into a person (you) (again).
[ b: she walks right into a food stand and well, i guess there goes 'em apples and oranges all over the floor. she's already getting yelled at so help. ]
[ c: courtesy of card, all 'em apples and oranges actually go into rei's face later on in the day. a kind npc has given her an orange but she's so tired and not really paying attention that she just bites down onto it like an apple and i guess she's eating the skin of the orange and getting orange juice everywhere. thanks, card. ]
[ d: she actually trips and falls flat on her face because the owner of the cape was actually 30cm taller than her so, of course, it's much longer on her. she falls quite heavily onto the floor and well, everything sucks. this sucks. life sucks!! ]

[ over the course of the next week or so, rei hovers near the entrance of the dungeon but she doesn't actually go in. she looks extremely uneasy and just hovers around. when she spots someone trying to go through the front entrance, she walks on over and grabs them by their sleeve or end of their shirt. ]
... please don't go in.
[ it's a small and sad plead. ]

He almost holds his breath when she asked for that, simply because he's horrible at it, but he'll try his goddamn best for Rei. ]
...Once upon a time, in some... uh, place, there's a princess with long, fluffy hair with flowers on it. She has big bright eyes, she smiles and laughs a lot. [ In reflex, he glances at her, even though with their position he can't really see anything. ] One day, while taking walks, she saw...
[ ...... ]
...a hugeass corn. [ He can't believe he's doing this, but he's doing it. ] The corn hurt his leg and couldn't move. The princess's real kind and 's got a huge heart, so tho' small, she tried her best to support him, leading him to her castle to treat him.
[ His voice grows softer, and softer as he goes. ]
Day by day, she knew no fatigue and kept carin' for the corn, 'til finally... the corn recovered. So he told the princess he'd leave, but come back at night. He returned to the castle at night then, with a giant box. When she opened it... a mirror's in it, reflecting her face. The corn said, "I wanted to share with you my happiness".
[ He pulls back slightly, just so he can look at Rei. It was a really shabby story that he came up with on the fly, but the point is ー he wants her to know how much she's saved his heart. And he wants to be there for her, too. ]

[ It's vexing to come down to that, but he doesn't know what else because he's not a prince, and he'll never be able to be one for Rei. Not when he's done so much wrong in the past, and will probably do more in the future. ]
You did. You reminded me that there're such thing as pure kindness in this world, and you make me wanna be kind to others too. You--
[ This is all kinda embarrassing to admit, but he's gone this far, he's gonna say everything. ]
You saved my heart, Rei. Just lookin' at ya make me happy. [ He looks away briefly, rubbing the back of his own head. ] And that's just what ya do to people, not just me. You're givin' your best for people. That's so rad, y'know? I look up to ya.

[ Mondo never lets go of Rei's hand the entire time, even as his palms are getting damp (sorry Rei...). It probably takes about 10 minutes to reach their destination, and yet it feels like it's been an hour or so. The lady greeting them after Mondo knocks on the door immediately lets them in, without asking any further questions other than whether or not she's hurt. The moment Mondo says no, she pushes Rei gently towards where the bathroom is and shoos Mondo away.
"This is for hot water, and this is for cold. You can switch here for shower and for bath. I'll wash your clothes and get you something to wear tonight, so take your time in there, okay?" Her voice is gentle, just like the smile she's giving Rei. ]
