July Intro Log

→ I.
The words linger in the back of your mind, but whether it’s your own thoughts or somebody else’s, ceases to matter in light of more pressing things. For one: actual light, mid-summer daylight streaming down upon your face, dust in the air glowing almost golden. Next to your hand lies a cloth omamori, each character’s a different color but all bordered with gold thread, a little black bird stitched in one corner, and… at the bottom...
It is your preferred name, along with another word. For those familiar with tarot, they may recognize it as one of the major arcana. Regardless, it seems to be meant for you, so it might be a good idea to hang onto it.
Looking around, all around you are broken stone pillars and crumbling walls, a spiral staircase that leads to an upper floor that has partially caved in, requiring a bit of a leap to make it to the top. From the outside, the structure looks like a castle, situated in a clearing otherwise surrounded by forest. From the inside, it appears as if no person has been here for a long time. Birds have made their nests in the upper story, eggshells scattered across the floor, and sticks and straw breaking off the nests in the dry summer heat. The occasional woodland animal can be found around the castle, skittish and quick to flee upon approach, but there are also several cats who seem to have no fear for strangers, rubbing against your ankles and padding off again unless you have food to bribe them to stay.
There is also a bear in deep sleep, in the middle of the main hall all characters awake in. Please do not disturb, or you may find yourself in the middle of a bear attack, completely disconnected from any special powers or abilities you may have. Curiously, any injuries you might remember last having seem to be in the process of healing, though by varying degrees, and maybe we shouldn’t undo that! There isn’t a hospital out here in the middle of nowhere, after all. You’ll have to venture out of the castle in search for help like that.
→ II.
A field of dry grass forms the clearing around the castle, with two paths on opposite sides leading into the forest:
A stone path, though broken up and partially buried in the dirt, will lead you out of the forest and towards the town, given you don’t wander off the path to be lost in the woods. But it’s alright if you do! If you keep wandering the forest, you may eventually come across the mountains. And if mountains aren’t an obvious enough sign you should turn back, you can continue through the short mountain range to find yourself back inside the forest; keep on going and eventually you’ll arrive at the opposite side of town. It’s the long way around, but you’ll make it either way.
The road less traveled, however, is one of just dirt, a narrow path that’s been cleared away but after all this time, the weeds have started encroaching again on both sides to reclaim the space. Following this path will take you to a set of stairs, dusty and crumbling but sound enough that you can climb it to the top and find a shrine. A fox yaps at you, and ducks away into the trees behind the shrine. The place could really use some cleaning up, from having the steps swept, to the water in the basin being changed out, to fixing up the sign stating what deity is worshipped here— it’s been broken apart, the name seared off the surface of the rotting wood. Who knows what it used to say…? There doesn’t seem to be anybody around at the shrine, nor anywhere in the forest.
→ III.
Civilization can finally be found in the town, but the people here just look at you curiously, unsure of what you’re talking about if asked about how you got here, and laughing a little when you inquire about the town, though happy enough to talk about their home. ...That’s strange, though? The language spoken here is Japanese, what sounds like an older dialect, and regardless of what you’re used to speaking, you find that you can speak and understand the language here without trouble. How convenient!
While much of the townspeople are bustling around in the mid-day, there are still others more than willing to show you around, or to point you in the right direction if you’d rather wander and explore on your own. Even if you feel like you don’t need a guide, there are plenty of stray cats loitering around the town more than happy to escort you wherever you go. For those who are injured, the walk-in clinic at the hospital has its doors open to treat anybody who needs tending to, for a small fee. Don’t have money? The townspeople are more than happy to hire you on, especially with what seems to be preparation for a festival to be held at the school at the end of the month. The students in the school are also eager to receive what help they can get, building sets, figuring out menus, or creating enough decorations to cover the school twice over.
Whether it’s cooking, mending, delivering, or something else, there’s a variety of odd jobs to be done, and the extra pocket money will serve to be helpful, especially once night falls. The temperature will dip overnight, a dense field of stars covering the sky like a blanket when the sun sets and the moon takes its place, but it’s warm enough in the summer that camping outside is a viable option for those who are used to sleeping outside or want to save money. No worries keeping warm without blankets, either; there’s a good chance a stray cat will wander by and sleep on your face. The inn, rumors have it, is haunted… but it may be the cheapest option if you want a roof over your head and not a broken castle or a cat.
Mod notes:⬥ There is no Lockdown period for the first week, and as such, Personas cannot be accessed until week 2

No, it's fine.
[ His balancing act finishes when he thinks he turned the chicken over enough. There's a distinct smell of chicken wafting now, even though Terry thinks that it's not fully cooked yet. ]
I don't want to bother her too much when she's sleeping like this.
no subject
[ Oh Terry ohh you have tuts the heart of a baguette
On a different situation he will be more distracted with the smell of chicken but this time? Just a quarter. He glances at the chicken very quick, and then back to Terry and Tabby (their names are similar, even...). ]
...I've decided. [ He sits up straight like this is some serious talk. ] I'm gonna keep her. Terry, you can name her.
no subject
I can?!
[ He asks in a hushed voice, but the excitement is still radiating from his being. ]
no subject
Mondo breaks into a fond smile that might not fully meant to be for Terry (yet), but hey, he's got a part of it. ]
Yeah. Go for it, big guy.
no subject
Oh. ]
How about "Lia"? [ When he says the name, there's definitely the L sound instead of the R sound of the Japanese alphabet. ]
no subject
Ain't that nice? I like it!
[ Yeah, it's simple but pretty. He likes how it sounds rolling off his tongue. Emulating the L sound is a little struggle for him, though, a couple of times it keeps going back to the R one. Them hooligans like to roll their Rs, after all. He'll get used to it!! ]
How d'ja come up with that?
no subject
[ Uhhhhh. ]
It just popped in my head and I liked it.
[ Just like the name, Terry is also simple. Also he's going to do the same thing as before when turning the chicken over a little in an attempt to be considerate of the kitty resting on his head. ]
no subject
[ He leans towards the chicken. ]
Dang, 's smellin' real good. Ya think it'll be good soon? I can go wash the berries if it needs some more time.
no subject
I think it needs one more turn and then it should be ready.
[ Though that's just his instincts talking. He should really look up this kind of stuff when he gets back to having Internet on his phone... someday... ]
no subject
[ And off he goes with the berries to find water. ]
no subject
He patiently waits here with Lia on his head and taps on his knees rhythmically and humming to the tune of the nyancat. He finishes cooking the chicken after turning it once more after some time passes and is careful when peeling the foil off the chicken. The smell is even stronger now and it smells pretty damn good. He tears off a piece of foil from the packaging and dumps some salt in it as if it's some kind of dip for the chicken. Fanning the chicken helps for cool it a little... he will get everything ready by the time Mondo returns. ]
no subject
It doesn't take too long for Mondo to come back because as Terry said, they were close to the nearest stream. ]
Oooh!!
[ His loud voice probably has reached first before himself, which proceeds to wake Lia up. Terry might feel her weight moving on top of his head. On the other hand, Mondo's marching in loudly with a huge grin (god, even his face is loud), berries glistening against the bright sunlight on his titan palms. He could smell the chicken from meters away! Damn, that good. ]
Looks like yer doin' a great job there, Terry. [ He leans down to give a good look at the beautifully roasted chicken, inhaling the crispy smell with his powerful (questionable?) nostrils. ] The berries are lookin' awesome here, too. Got any spare foils or ya wanna eat 'em straight up?
[ He then feels a stare, which comes from the top of Terry's head. ]
Heh. You're awake in time, aren'cha. It's meal time, Lia.
no subject
Terry puts down whatever he's holding and raises his hands to carefully grab Lia from his head, since he's of the thought that cats feel a little groggy after they just wake from their slumber. He doesn't let go of her until her paws touch the ground and gets out a piece of foil so that Mondo could put the berries there. ]
Thanks! And here.
[ After passing the foil, he gets out a small kitchen knife (the top one) and pulls out its sheathe to cut the chicken into manageable chunks. After that, he cuts off several more portions of the foil to serve as makeshift plates, should Mondo want one, but he's pretty sure Lia would want one. So he cuts up small pieces, puts that in the foil, and hands that over to Mondo. ]
It's still hot, so be careful when you feed it to Lia.
[ There's a big drumstick for Mondo, which he left to the side so that Mondo can take it anytime. ]
no subject
If Mondo thinks about how they've only known each other for a few hours tops and how bad his first impression is towards Terry initially, it's gonna trip him up so hard. It might be the atmosphere of this whole place, or his whole mindset as a whole, but dang. ]
Man, you sure are goddamn prepared. [ Should he be concerned that Terry's carrying kitchen knife around
Aight, there we go. I think it should be better. Eat up.
[ He'll put it down for Lia to eat once it seems like it's cooled down enough. ]
Ahhh, I'm starvin' as hell! 's that mine? [ He points at the huge drumstick. ] Ya better be eat up too, yeah?
no subject
[ maybe he should
There's another big drumstick for Mondo put to the side and after Terry is done cutting up the chicken into easily edible portions, he eats the meat off the wings. Delicious. He puts some salt on it and he feels like it enhances the taste a lot. Wow. It looks like it's a success! Terry will definitely keep this in mind for later. ]
How's the taste?
no subject
Ooooh!!! [ He says with his mouth full, scrunched up eyebrows and a huge smile. What a face. ] Terryyyy, goddamn!! [ He slaps a hand to cover his eyes, overwhelmed with euphoria for a good five seconds there, before slapping Terry's back. That's the third one today. ]
Dude, dude listen, seriously, seriously, for real...
[ He scoots closer, both hands on Terry's shoulders. WHAT IS PERSONAL BUBBLE. ]
I wanna eat your cooking everyday!!
[ Is this a proposal? No, it's a broposal.
Meanwhile, Lia's just giving them a judgmental look as she continues sucking in the meat like a vacuum. Looks like it tastes great for her too! ]
1/2
Terry doesn't mind the hands on his shoulders, or the personal bubble breaching, but. ]
no subject
[ HE KNOWS THAT LINE. IT'S INFAMOUS FOR PROPOSING!! HE'S WATCHED ENOUGH TV TO KNOW THIS AT THE VERY LEAST!!
So he's there, looking flabbergasted. He's never been asked out, let alone proposed to. It's all new to him. ]
no subject
Huh?
[ Was he too loud that Terry couldn't hear what he's saying? He'll try again. ]
Uh, I wanna eat your cooking everyday? It's real good?
[ It's almost like someone just casted a Confuse status ailment his way, all his sentences end with question mark.
Lia's just gonna munch quietly there, nbd. No popcorns? Chicken works too. ]
no subject
Even though Mondo looks obviously confused, Terry interprets that as the same as Mondo, as if he didn't hear it the first time. ]
Aren't we going a bit too fast for this?!
no subject
The two of them obviously share one brain cell, and Lia's ready to see them exhaust that only one. ]
Hah?! [ Mondo isn't sure what Terry's trying to say with 'too fast', but he's too confused to even ask that. ] The hell's it like in America?! Aren't you guys super open with anything?!
[ On this context or not, that's taking it too broadly, Mondo... ]
no subject
I... I'm not that easy!
[ terry.
terry...
They sure do share one brain cell. it's probably gonna die out any moment. ]
no subject
Aight, my bad. Let's negotiate, then. [ Still with both hands on Terry's shoulders. ] Tell me, what's your terms?
[ Ah, they're getting further and further, to the deeper sea... ]
no subject
You have to buy me dinner first. Then I'll... I'll think about it.
[ ...
Yeah. That's the best he got. He sounds completely serious too. If it was a real proposal, he'd probably be rejected. ]
no subject
[ He raises an eyebrow, grinning wide. ]
Sure, dinner's on me. So you'll cook for me in the morning...?
