[OPEN] cash money, make it rain

[ If you had stepped into Hirajiro any time in July and checked out its street full of bustling workers, chances are, you were probably given a pamphlet by girls in maid outfits with cat ears. nyan. It's a special promotion that will be held this week from July 15th to July 20th, where you'll be given a loyalty punch card for the first entree you order and you will be given one free entree after the third hole is punched for the duration of the event. There's also a kid's meal discount for 20% off! You can even get another punch card after you use up your first one. Wow.

The owner of the place is kinda odd though. During those six days, the first three days (15-17) will be full of maids only. The latter half (18-20) will have butlers only. After that, it looks like they would go back to normal with a mix of maids and butlers with cat ears. The owner definitely wanted to try something new to see how it would go. Also, if you have long hair, you need to tie it back somehow, no matter what. It's still a food industry, after all.

There's a problem though...

Terry was originally supposed to have the first three days off, since it was maids only. However, with the lethargy that had plagued Hirajiro as of late, he was "asked" to cover various shifts. In the end, he accepted it begrudgingly and told the owner that he would cover the absent coworkers' shifts for the first two days.

A mix of "I wouldn't look good in a dress", "This makeup will make it look like you are a completely different person. Give me that tape", "Why is tape used in makeup?! This wig is itchy", "This is your debut as Emily. Do your best, Emily" and yells of agony filled the room past the door that marks "employees only". ]

[ NOTE: There's a lunch menu and a dinner menu (there's no alcohol but you can also make something up as long as seems "reasonable") along with a list of services that the customer may request as a side bonus if they order 1 entree.

1. Shoulder massage (5 minutes)
2. Eating buddy (10 minutes, the server sits at the table with you and you can talk to them or whatever)
3. A short skit (the servers act out a dramatization purely for SFW fanservice)

Should they choose none of the above or didn't order 1 entree, the server will leave and come back with a cute, giant life-sized bear plush doll with a ribbon around its neck and place them on the opposite seat of the customer. The customer also has an option to buy it after they finish whatever they ordered for the equivalent of ~$25 in Hirajiro's currency.

The owner will be occasionally making rounds to see if his employees are being harassed, ask customers how is everything, and generally just overlooking the establishment. You're also free to have the skirt length range from a little above the knee or down to mid-calf if your character also works here.

Terry just looks so exasperated when Leon describes it. It's not because of how he worded his description, but the description itself. His heart felt like it would have exploded right there and then too!!!

Despite everything, he lifts his head from the table and leans back in his chair. ]

It's pretty hard for me to maintain that. I was hoping if you could tell me some tips to how to stay straight faced. An idol does that sort of thing too, right? All I have to do is imagine my friend punching me and I can keep my composure through it.

[ He looks off to the side... why is this his life now ]

[ Uh, he notices how weird that sounded, so he'll continue. ]

Hmm... I've actually never thought much about it... maybe it's because I'm a genius? [ He tilts his head, grinning. ] But Terry-senpai, what do you feel when you do it? Do you feel like laughing? [ He did ask how to keep a straight face. ]

Not that kind! I mean...

[ How does he explain without outing himself. No matter how cheerful Leon seems, Terry can't help but think that he'd be weirded out by him eventually. And that's not something he wants to do on the first day. ]

It's... embarrassing.

[ As long as you don't refer yourself as the incarnation of music and beauty who has descended upon Earth, you're good, Terry. As long as you don't eat instant miso soup dry, as it is... you're good. ]

Really? Why so? What's embarrassing about it?

[ Sorry Terry, this boy just doesn't know what shame is. ]

[ His self esteem is weird, but he thinks he'll never have to refer to himself as something as grand as that, unless it's for a skit or something. But. You know. He's a demigod clone. So there's some irony in this.

[ He hums in consideration. ]

I don't really get what's so embarrassing for you, but we can try out different skits! Like--

[ In a flash, he captures Terry's chin with his fingers, eyes narrowing and voice turning serious. ]

Terry.

[ And lets go, grinning wide. ]

Something like that~?

[ It happened so fast.

Sometimes he wonders if he feels like the customers, thinking that this fabricated acting is just for them--meaningful, emotional. personal--a delusion. He can't help but to be swallowed up by these moments, swayed by the surrounding atmosphere like hook, line, and sinker. He needs to fan himself.

Terry's face immediately turns red. Really red. It's very obvious. It's gotten so red that it's hard to differentiate that from the blood dripping from the side of his head. ]

[ Terry promptly passes out from having his wound reopened due to the amount of "stress", so his head leans back into the chair as he slumps.

Time to call the owner, Leon... ]

[ What.

WHAT THE HELL?!

Leon moves quickly to sling an arm behind Terry's neck, but he's also panicking. Majorly so. ]

TERRY-SENPAI?!? TERRY-SENPAI, HANG IN THERE!!!!

[ Leon's voice is so loud it echoes even throughout the hall, that the owner comes running to the backroom without Leon having to call for him. ]

Owner-san!! Terry-senpai, Terry-senpai's...!

[ Oh no, his eyes are watering now. Is Terry-senpai dead? What's going on?! Is it because of him? Did he pull his chin too hard?? Did it pull some nerves??? WHAT DOES HE DO... WHAT CAN HE DO OTHER THAN TRYING TO STOP THE BLEEDING WITH TISSUE... ]

Ambu, ambulance!! Ambulance!!

[ The owner looks surprised, but he's not as panicky as Leon.

"Calm down, Leon-kun. Ahh... it looks like it's been getting to that time anyway. What am I going to tell Kiriko-chan..." The owner mumbles to himself as if this kind of thing is... expected? In actuality, he had to argue with Terry's doctor and they ended up compromising that Terry can still take up 2-hour shifts for the butler days if it looked like he was fine. He... looked absolutely fine this morning, but then this happens.

"I'll call for the hospital. If you need some time to collect yourself, you can stay--" Wait, the back room has a bloody floor now. "Never mind. You can go pass out tissues to the passerbys. Take it easy though, alright? On with you. I'll take care of this."

[ For just the past few minutes alone, the only sound that leaves Leon is "eh?" and more "eh?"s because he doesn't quite understand. No, he doesn't understand at all. Is it normal for people here to bleed and pass out like this? Why is the owner so calm? He's telling Leon to pass out tissues? What?? What is going on????? ]

Eh, wai-- please wait!! I was the one who made Terry-senpai bleed, I should go with him!! Please!!

[ Normally, the owner would be stubborn on matters like this, but he honestly doesn't want to see the look on Terry's doctor's face when he gets there. They're friends, but he knows the full wrath she can display, so.

"If you're sure, Leon-kun..."

Then he gives him directions to the hospital and tells him how to get Terry there without... giving him whiplash. Treat him delicately. Head injuries are serious. All that stuff. ]

[ For someone who always barely passes his subjects, Leon absorbs every detail on the directions like a sponge, now that he's resolutely determined to get Terry there as smooth as possible. If only he has at least a quarter of this for his studies... Anyway, the travel from the cafe to the hospital doesn't take all that long, really, so safe for some weird/appalled stares, people pointing and whispering (all of which Leon ignored... or more like didn't even realise), there weren't much that could be said to be obstacles.

As intended, he gets Terry to the entrance of hospital safely, for the most part. The only thing is that Terry's shirt is pretty much drenched, not just with his own blood but also Leon's tears. Leon has stopped crying for the moment, but his voice is still desperate when he yells out: ]

Excuse me!! Please-- please help Terry-senpai!! I'll do anything!!

[ As soon as the front desk receptionist sees Leon and Terry, other nurses come out with a stretcher to put Terry on it and carry him away.

After a while, a rather tired female doctor comes out, sighing and meets up with Leon.

"You must be Nowell-kun's coworker. Thank you for bringing him here. You can report back to your boss that he arrived safe and sound. As for Nowell-kun himself, he will be fine. Just needs a lot of rest. He won't be taking visitors at this time, but you are free to come back tomorrow." ]

E, eh... I... okay.

[ With them moving really fast and sure, Leon has no window to ask questions. Her words sound final, and he doesn't know how to voice out what he wants to say. He wants to tell them that it's his fault, but there's no point saying that now, right? It's more important to get Terry's injury treated. So he checks what time he can visit Terry tomorrow, before heading back to the maid cafe to update the manager.

He leaves the cafe with more questions than answers, because no matter what he asked the manager, it's met with vague responses and brush-offs, and that "it's not really his fault". At least he's gotten the permission to come in later tomorrow so he can visit Terry. ]

【 THE NEXT MORNING... 】

[ Leon makes it a priority to visit Terry the first thing in the morning. The moment the visiting hour is open, he's there. He doesn't know what to bring for people who aren't down with cold, so he brings a whole plastic with jellies, pudding, snacks, as well as some apples. It might not even be necessary anyway because there's hospital food but he's heard that hospital food isn't really good, so...

Anyway. He drags a chair by Terry's bedside, quietly waiting for the guy to come to. ]

[ Terry was sleeping normally, so when Leon brings up a chair, he slowly blinks and looks over at his visitor. ]

Oh... Leon? What are you doing here?

[ Terry has bandages over his head (again) and the cat family of five quietly mews from under the bed--a mother with four kittens. ]

[ On a normal situation, Leon would get distracted (and excited) by the cats, but right now, his priority is Terry. When the guy comes to, Leon leans forward. His eyes are open wide, expecting, but his voice isn't nearly as boisterous. ]

Terry-senpai! ...How are you feeling?

[ He soon looks down in guilt. ]

Yesterday, when we were practicing, you suddenly bled and passed out...

[ ...

Oh. That... sure happened. Thinking back on it embarrasses him, but he chooses to laugh it off. ]

Yeah, uh... sorry about that. I must have pushed myself too hard...

[ He notices Leon's guilty look and promptly pokes his forehead after sitting up on the bed. ]

It's not your fault.

[ He looks back up at the touch, rubbing where it was poked. That was what the owner told him too, but he can't just nod and agree. It's not words of reassurance that he's looking for. He wants to know what this is all about. If he didn't cause it, that's worse, isn't it? ]

But, Terry-senpai, you bled until you passed out. That's not... normal, is it? The owner won't tell me anything...

[ His brows are scrunched, lips pursed. ]

I got into a pretty big accident. The owner was still short on staff so I offered to help since he was pretty desperate, but we agreed that I would only work short shifts and that I would come back to the hospital for the remainder of the day.

[ Look... you can't just refuse the owner... it's impossible for someone like Terry. ]

The doctor assigned to me was really mad about it though. I can understand why... but at work, it looked like nothing was wrong, right? That's how it should have been.

So that's what happened...

[ Leon sighs, unsure what he's feeling about the situation. He understands the demanding feeling of doing your job, even if you're not feeling 100%, but this is different. ]

You should think of yourself too, Terry-senpai. It'll take longer to recover if you're not properly resting! [ These are words that he's been told before, but he finally understands how true it is now that he's at the opposite side. ] I'll take up on your shifts and work twice as hard, so please relax and rest up a lot, okay?

Ah...

[ He smiles a little. ]

Thanks, Leon. I doubt the doctor and nurses would let me leave now anyway. After one incident, you can't get second chances. Maybe I should be a pet groomer instead. I can brush all the cats from my bed and clean up pretty well too.

[ There's several cat fur balls off to the side, well made, entirely spherical. ]

Hospital bills don't pay themselves.

[ Leon makes this (´・ω・｀) face at Terry for a while, before Terry mentions the cats. ]

Cats?

[ Before he asks where the cats come from, the mewls under the bed catch his attention and his eyes are sparkling. ]

Cats!!! [ He quickly squats down to look at them better, eyes watering from the bubbling up feeling. ] So cute...!!

[ That suddenly gives him idea, so he looks back up so fast at Terry. ]

I have an idea, Terry-senpai!! You can let people pet your cat for some money!! I will pay money!! You can have my cafe pay!!
