AUGUST EVENT PT 2
premise ⬥ taken ⬥ faq ⬥ navigation
→ 8/13-8/15 Obon Festival
Lanterns start to dot the streets, hung by the front door of each house who still have an able body to hang them. From there, the lights spread outward, neighbors visiting neighbors with lanterns in hand and prayers in their hearts that the light will be enough to guide the spirits of their ancestors home, enough to heal their loved ones and bring the health and energy back into town.
The first day of Obon passes in silence.
On the second day, the oppressive heat starts to lift, skies clear with a cool breeze that passes through the streets and rocks the lanterns at each door, which opens as people trickle out onto the street. By late afternoon, the entire town is alive with chatter and laughter, the townspeople bustling about to get their late start in setting up the festival stalls and the large stage set on the lakeside in front of the school. Some of the missing have started turning up again, with claims of having recovered from illness or returned from a trip, and more than that, visiting relatives are introduced to one another despite no car or plane ever seen entering or leaving the town. With most businesses closed for the Obon holiday, the second day is spent catching up with one another, making last-minute purchases and renting yukata, and finishing preparations so that both the spirits of their ancestors and those who have become well enough again may celebrate with all in full. By the end of the night, everybody has returned, the town restored.
Loud drumming can be heard the morning of the third day, taiko drum performances starting early and lasting late into the evening. The steady beat fills the air no matter where in town you are, but standing right in front of the stage, it can be felt in your chest, as if the entire town's hearts beat as one. Though less compared to during the tanabata festival, stalls are set up for Obon and largely consist of games and shops selling toys and trinkets, food stalls focusing on small treats rather than meals. With the taiko performance in the background to keep the rhythm, folk dances are held on the stage and in the parks and are open to anybody, participants being pulled in from the streets to join the circles to dance. Traditional clothing like yukata can be seen worn by almost everybody, from young children to great-grandparents, as they gather around the lake at sundown to say farewell to the spirits. Lanterns are lit and sent off into the lake, where they gather at the center and burn bright until there's nothing left to burn, and the town settles into warm, sleepy darkness.
When night falls and the townspeople begin to clean up, retrieve the lanterns, and go home, the breeze picks up a little, soft and cool, cutting paths throughout town much like the freezing gusts of winds that first Lockdown night. Rather than to the schoolhouse, however, the wind gently nudges you towards the forest, towards the edge of forest blocked by caution tape to keep people out of scorched earth and blackened trees. Only one lantern is left untouched, hanging on a tree branch just before this forest fire site, fallen trees cleared out to widen the path, that leads into the forest.
Soon, the full moon hangs high in the sky, shining its light straight down onto the castle ruins below.
→ 8/15 Castle Ruins and the Shrine
Carried along by the breeze that winds through the streets and blows down this path, finding your way through the forest becomes simple, and soon the trees part to reveal the castle ruins hidden away inside the forest -—at least, what used to be castle ruins. The changes come unexpected and instantly, in a blink of an eye during the day for those who still live in the castle, and a sight to behold for those who haven't returned in a long time until tonight.
Entering the castle reveals a repaired foundation and pillars which stand whole again, stairs to the second floor still broken but with all the rubble underneath cleared away, the air inside the castle no longer choking with dust. In the main hall, red candlesticks line the perimeter of the room, the glow of fire illuminating the murals that have shown up on previously blank walls, images faintly visible under a layer of yellow mildew. If you carefully scrub them clean, they depict a small village surrounded by farmland, a familiar lake at the center, flocks of crows adorning the skies with one large crow standing on the peak of the mountain overlooking the town.
At the center of the castle's main hall, a mother bear and two cubs can be seen snoozing in the middle of the room, sleeping next to a meter-by-meter square that has been cut into the stone ground. If you can get the bears to leave or are brave enough to approach without waking them up, you will see that hinges on one edge suggest it to be a door, but there is no handle and no way to lift the panel, nor can the door or the surrounding area be damaged no matter how hard you try. Upon closer inspection, there are four impressions on each corner of the door matching the size and shape of the ofuda received as a reward for defeating the dungeon boss, currently in RO's possession. Placing the ofuda on one of the slots causes the edges of the door to glow bright blue for a second before the light disappears, and the ofuda turns to stone, just like the door and the castle around them. Nothing more seems to happen after, the other three impressions remaining exactly the same.
All throughout the night, the candles burn along the perimeter of the hall, one hundred in total that cast the room in warm light. Whether you remember the fortune teller's words or are simply chatting with one another and catching up on all that's happened during your time here, each time a story is shared, a light blows out, leaving the castle dimmer and dimmer as the night goes on. The darker it gets, the more restless you begin to feel, Personas becoming more agitated and prone to lash out as the clock ticks closer to midnight. Those who choose to take a walk to the shrine to cool their heads find that the shrine looks different from before too, revealing unbroken steps, a thoroughly swept floor, stone lanterns whole instead of crumbled and broken, and the water basin filled to the brim with clear water that almost seems to sparkle in the moonlight— a far cry from how broken down the abandoned shrine appeared just a month before. There's still work to be done, however: in particular, the sign- restored and painted over in pure white so that it looks almost new- still displays no name. The paint is still a little wet, so perhaps somebody is just waiting for the paint to dry...
The night seems to drag on, but as long as people keep talking, no matter where they are in the castle or at the shrine, the candle lights continue going out until they count down to zero.
→ 8/15 Welcome to the Velvet Room
When the last of the candles go out and the castle plunges into complete darkness, a bright blue light begins to shine from beside the throne, taking on the form of a doorway set into the wall. Without fanfare, two figures step out, the taller with silver hair and a kind face, and the other with golden eyes that peek past long bangs to squint at everybody inside the castle. ...The latter immediately turns around back through the doorway to leave his partner to explain things to everybody here, who takes a seat on the throne as if he belongs there all along. If you have questions, come talk to this guy; but otherwise, there's nothing stopping you from going through the doorway to follow after the other one.
This isn't the only doorway that opens up: blue light shines between the pillars of the torii at the shrine, and similar doorways appear scattered throughout town to replace your bedroom door, the bathroom stall in a store you've run into for an emergency, set into the wall in an alleyway where there was no door before, even at the first floor of the school dungeon if for whatever reason you're there. Regardless of which door you enter, stepping through any doorway brings you into a small room, a bowl of fresh fruit and a bottle of some sort of non-alcoholic mixed drink in a bucket of ice sitting on the table in the middle of the room, two chairs flanking the table and a plush velvet couch against one wall. The ground shakes and rocks as you look around, curtains pulled aside to reveal inky blue darkness, spots of light floating past the windows out in the distance like stars. Each person arrives in their own room, a placard with their name and arcana set on the door labelling it theirs.
Down the end of the hall, the door opens up into a brightly lit lounge, wide windows set along the walls although the landscape outside remains as dark as ever. The lounge is filled with chairs and couches covered in the same blue velvet as the rooms and music seems to fill your entire being rather than just your ears. Passing through the door at the end of the lounge brings you to the conductor's cab where a young man sits, changed out of his costume into a more formal uniform in dark blues with a train engineer cap pulled low over closed eyes, slouched far back on his seat with his feet up on the control panel. Despite all that, however, the train simply zips along, the rail just barely visible from the front window of the cab. The attendant tilts his head your way, looking rather irritable, silent until you speak first.
→ MOD NOTES
⬥ As a reminder, characters are more likely to lose control of their Personas around the time of the full moon (8/15) but this can also occur at any time, especially with internal conflict and during Lockdown. This is an optional mechanic. Personas will also temporarily disappear once the character enters the Velvet Room.
⬥ The two Velvet Room assistants will have their own top-levels below for those who wish to speak with them in this log, and they may be contacted at the NPC contact page at any time as well. The NPC contact page will serve as an "IC inbox" for the characters to freely interact with the attendants to ask questions, receive and fill requests, hang out, etc. Please read this page carefully for more information about accessing the Velvet Room.
⬥ While each attendant may have individual requests for those who ask for them, they will also give tasks for the characters as a whole. These general requests will be listed on the NPC contact page at the beginning of each month. Successful completion of a request will earn characters rewards, and there is no time limit for completion.

Re: Mod Questions
So we know that Terry needs to drink blood to keep extending his lifespan. If we assume he somehow "dies" by this reason, would it be fine to have him in a coma-like state until he gets some blood fed through his mouth? And depending on how long he stays in that state, when he wakes up, he'd feel immensely weak or something.

[ kokichi doesn't know what has overcome him lately. since the morning of the 14th, he has been feeling more... irritable. more prone to becoming upset. more prone to losing his grip on himself. he has been trying so damn hard to keep up his facade. if he continues to pretend that he's okay then it'll eventually come true. if he just acts like that annoying brat that no one wants to be around then that'd become reality. just an irritating kid who doesn't have anything else on his mind asides from infurating everyone... ]
[ ... it doesn't work. ]
[ it doesn't work and he feels himself slipping. ]
( ᴏɴᴇ )
[ the first night, he tries to check out the obon festival. surrounding himself with life and party may help ease away these feelings. after all, this might just be a rut. he just needs to try harder to convince himself that things are all right, so he wanders the festival, but he can't find his mood improving at all. instead, it only makes him feel worse. ]
[ for some god forsaken reason, he's alive again and he survived his second murdergame, but at the cost of everyone else. momota-chan died again because of him and akamatsu-chan died a second pointless death. ban-chan didn't even make it out of the murdergame without turning into some kind of mindless zombie. he failed his original plan and wasn't even able to do anything about the second game. why did gonta have to die if his survival didn't lead to anything? ]
[ ... he rushes through the crowd with hot and angry tears at the corners of his eyes. he pushes and shoves through and hopes that he doesn't knock or see someone who would stop him. ]
( ᴛᴡᴏ )
[ he makes it back to the castle the next night. he needs to be alone. he needs to grab some of his stuff and bounce until he can somehow get a grip on himself again. he'll just grab his bag and leave, but it takes him longer than he thought to return and by then, it's midnight and everyone has gathered at the castle. ]
[ seeing everyone, his first instinct is to turn around and run. this is the complete opposite of what he needs, but something stops him. something starts to hurt. it aches and feels like it's going to explode and he raises a hand to his chest. pressure builds up in his chest until he can't breathe and, just as suddenly as it formed, it disappears and releases in the form of his persona, nogitsune. ]
[ it attacks him first. it pushes him down onto the ground and sits on his chest. with its front paws, it presses down on his neck. he lets out a choked noise as he places his hands against the fox and tries to push it off. it doesn't budge. it stays firm and digs in deeper, focused solely on its user and to nothing else around it. ]
( ᴛʜʀᴇᴇ )
[ it then attacks others. the noise that everyone makes eventually draws its attention away and causes it to lash out. shut up. it doesn't want to hear anything. just be quiet. ]
[ it leaps onto other people and attempts to crush their windpipe as well. although it's not very physically powerful, its agility is high. it's quick and doesn't stay long if it notices anyone approaching it. it leaps back and lets out a series of gekkers. it lays low and employs a series of long-range moves. it uses a mixture between evil touch (inflicts fear) and nocturnal flash (inflicts dizzy) before it tries to use eiha (light curse damage) or spirit drain (steals sp). it will do everything its power to avoid being caught and will act like any feral animal trapped. the only way to defeat it is by beating the crap out of it. ]
( ᴡɪʟᴅᴄᴀʀᴅ )
[ feel free to come up with a prompt of your own! sorry that kokichi is just the way he is... ]
Two
...
There's no time to think about that when the situation at hand seems more urgent, so he'll rush over and attempt to punt Nogitsune off Kokichi. ]

Oneechan! Wa-wait!
[ Breathing heavily, Kido pushes through the crowd, cursing the heavy geta on her feet, the yukata that makes it so hard to run, bun threatening to come undone, tears blurring the corners of her eyes that make it hard to see and the darkness of the night doesn't help at all, no matter how bright the string of lights along each stall she runs past. The more time that passes, the more desperately she looks around, slows, lost and confused at why there's so many people now, so that she can't even find one person in the crowd. ]
Excuse me...
[ She stops whoever she can who doesn't immediately throw her hand away and continue walking. ]
Have you seen a girl around my age, wearing a red scarf? Please, if—
[ Well, nothing she can do if they shake their head and walk away, except to move onto the next person who stops for her. ]
ii. 8/15, Town
[ She never found who she was looking for. She'd thought... No, maybe it was stupid to be hopeful to begin with. Obon doesn't mean spirits literally come back, as much as Kido is scared of ghosts but just as desperately wants to see her family again— two dead mothers, two dead sisters, everybody else in her family she can't be sure is still alive if whatever had gotten to her had also killed them.
With a sigh, she sits on the ground beside the lake, not caring if she gets her yukata dirty as she holds the lantern in her lap, not ready yet to let it go into the water, the full moon seeming twice as large reflected on the surface of the lake. The breeze picks up around her, breaking the reflection with ripples, but she just wraps her arms more tightly around herself and wishes she'd chosen to wear her hoodie instead of this stupid fancy getup. Her lantern will be the last one to go, she decides, even if she has to wait until midnight to be the last. ]
iii. 8/15, Velvet Room
[ Not having gone to the castle to begin with, Kido literally stumbles into the Velvet Room while stepping through the door to the bathroom to brush her teeth after coming home and changing into her pajamas. It reminds her of the very first time she experienced Lockdown and ran out of the house in her pajamas and slippers to see the whole world change; this time, she's barefoot, but just as shocked to see so much blue. ]
Um... Uh...
[ Shaking, she picks up the glass bottle chilling in ice on the table, and holds it by the neck like a bat, grip tight as she carefully slides open the door and steps out into the corridor. If there is anything that suggests a Shadow— a loud noise or sudden movement or even just a regular shadow— Kido is absolutely going to swing this glass bottle in their face without warning, intent on getting the first strike if something dangerous jumps out at her. ]
iv. 8/16, Dungeon 1st floor
[ Collect feathers from the Shadows here? Easy, easy, Kido doesn't even need to defeat them, she thinks, so long as she keeps her presence hidden with her powers, unable to be seen, heard, or sensed by anybody in the dungeon, friend or foe.
There's no point of going inside the maze for this, so Kido sneaks around the outskirts, spotting a Hybrid lurking in the corner waiting to ambush somebody from the other side of the maze walls, edging close enough that she can reach out and pluck a feather off from one of its wings— when her Persona appears and she leaps back in alarm. To any outside observer, Nekogami seems to have just popped out of thin air, spitting and hissing at the Hybrid and covering the ground with ice. In the next second, Kido's the one who reappears, slipping backwards on the ice and slamming hard onto the ground, hitting the back of her head with a sharp cry of pain. She rolls over, clutching her head, her Persona yowling and swiping at the Hybrid but doing little before it gets caught in the Shadow's talons.
Rather than directing her Persona or running away, Kido sits up, eyes wide and staring, turning her head back and forth but not once focusing her eyes on the battle taking place right in front of her. Everything is dark. She can't see at all. ]
wc.
[ ooc: Kido will not be able to lie from 8/13-8/19 and she will completely lose her sense of sight from 8/16-8/18. As always, I can be pinged at
i
When Kido stops Terry, he immediately turns around to see who it is and--
...
Who... is this...? She looks so much like Kido, and yet he shouldn't be in Hirajiro. Yet she sounds and looks the same. Maybe she's just a similar person? Not to mention she's in a cute outfit and different styled hair, but he doesn't know many green-haired people to begin with. It really throws him for a loop. ]
Um, no... sorry. I can try to help you though? I don't think anyone will be wearing a scarf in the summer, so she should be easy to find...

[If anyone's wandering the forest for whatever reason, they might find Sasuke hanging around a torii, placing his hand lightly on the charred surface.]
Was it hit during that storm...?
[This is very concerning?? He's so concerned, and it shows in the way he examines the torii carefully, circling around it as he does so. After about a moment, he closes his eyes, leaning his head against the wood of the torii.]
Where are you...?
[Anyway if you want to interrupt this weirdo feel free.]
[Obon]
[Sometime when he thinks no one's watching, Sasuke will fetch a lantern for himself, although the fact that he maintains a slight distance from the villagers is a bit of a giveaway. Prior to the sendoff, he can be found with his head bowed, expression serious. And once he releases the lantern into the water, he spends some time watching it as it floats away, a rare look of pain on his face as it drifts along with the other lanterns towards the center of the lake.]
[Castle Dungeon]
[Like the others, Sasuke is drawn to the castle, and later the school dungeon. There's some things he can collect there, after all. Unfortunately, once he reaches the school, a few things happen at once.
Firstly, the Shadows that appear are quick to rush him in particular. Though he draws a simple, thin dagger (where did he even get that?), it's immediately clear this is not going to be sufficient to fight back.
A brief moment of hesitation and he reaches into his pocket for his amulet, summoning a shadowy woman whose very form seems to waver. Without any further prompting, she reaches her hands out towards the shadows, and casts maeiha on the creatures.
And... she just keeps doing that. Sasuke watches with clear alarm, wincing as he raises a hand to his head. Each spell takes energy to cast, after all, and...]
Stop!
[But his plea falls on deaf ears. This... is probably bad.]
[Neko Atsume]
[...So! Sometime after that debacle, people might instead find him around town. He's got a bag of... carrots? And cans. There's a slightly fishy smell following him as he quickly makes his way towards the forest and later, the castle. He checks frequently for the cats that are beginning to follow along as he goes. Kuro trots alongside him at his feet, a bit wary of so many other cats ready to pounce for food, but so far, no fights have broken out... yet.]
dungeon
But once she reaches the school, something feels... off... She has definitely experienced this before, but. What--
--oh.
What she witnesses before her are a mass of shadows trying to attack Sasuke and some giant... shadowy woman constantly casting dark aoe spells.
What the fuck. ]
Sasuke! Is that your Persona?

[ Terry is at the center of the castle's main hall, eyeing something, though his expressions can't really be easily readable by passerbys. It's unsure whether he's staring at the the meter by meter block or the bears. Could be both, but-- ]
Hey, you got some matches on you? I'm really hungry...

A kid just going to town on that Hybrid. Fearless.
Kido won't approach until after the battle, trotting up with her own ghost cat draped over her shoulders. ...She doesn't recognize Mae at all, yeah. Maybe there's other weirdo cat things running around, who knows. ]

[The events of the Nonary Game that he was forced to participate in a couple months ago still weigh heavily on Red's mind, even moreso after he encountered Sasuke at the beginning of the month. The nine people that cruelly lost their lives, a good chunk of those deaths which Red played a part in, the self-depricating feelings he had already felt before that horrifying experience being dangerously intensified as a result... It's all becoming increasingly difficult to deal with. He's been getting little to no sleep these past couple of weeks, and he hasn't been eating enough either despite keeping his Pokémon well-fed. On top of that, he's continued going into the dungeon every single night. The circles under his eyes are now darker than ever.
Ever since the Tanabata festival ended, Red has begun spending less time at the castle and more time in the mountains once again, where no human can bother him. Tonight, however, he strolls into town well before Lockdown. He's heard talks of the Obon Festival, and while he has no intention of participating in any of it, there is one thing he feels like he has to do. So he hits up a shop that sells LED paper lanterns and buys nine of them, along with batteries for all of them. The cashier expresses concern for Red's well-being, but he brushes them off and heads back to the outskirts of the town, stopping at a tree close to the town's entrance (that isn't the one that was recently set on fire). He moves to the side of the tree trunk where people looking out from the town won't be able to see him and sits down, beginning to get the lanterns set up.
He knows this is supposed to be a holiday about honoring your ancestors and all, but screw that. The people he truly wants to honor are the ones whose lives were mercilessly cut short under the guise of an experiment, whose families and loved ones will never know what actually happened to them. He doesn't have a home in town to hang these lanterns on, but he can at least hang them near the town so that if their spirits aren't able to make it home, maybe they can come join the party with all the other spirits that will be visiting during this holiday.
Once the first lantern is powered on and ready to hang, he lets his Charizard out of his ball so he can hang it on a branch for him while he sets up the next one. Red definitely doesn't have enough energy left to be climbing trees, so it's better if his big dragon boi handles it. Tears begin to well up in his eyes as he works, though none actually come out. Pikachu rubs his head against Red's cheek and Charizard watches him with concern in between lantern hangings. This is fine. Everything is fine.]
ii. 8/15 - castle, around 11pm
[Red had spent the previous night and almost all of today in the mountains, so when he flies towards the castle on Charizard's back, he's shocked by what he sees. The castle looks... like an actual castle again??? How could it suddenly be restored after such a short amount of time? Or... could this be like the school turning into a dungeon every night? He's immediately filled with unease, but he has Charizard land in front of the castle's entrance anyway and cautiously walks in. No sign of any Shadows yet. The restlessness and anxiety grows as he continues until he reaches the throne room. There's people here. People other than Kokichi and Mae. Why? Red doesn't think he can handle being around this many people right now, especially when he knows the majority of them. He should leave.
So he turns around, but then his heart stops for a split second. During that second, Amarok has appeared behind Red, glaring at him with the eyes of a predator and snarling viciously. Before he or his Pokémon can even move, the giant wolf pounces on top of Red and pins him down with a single paw, digging his claws deep into his master's back, blood immediately oozing out of the wounds. Amarok leans his head in close to Red and growls with pure malice. The shock of it all leaves him completely paralyzed.
Pikachu and Charizard attack the Persona with everything they have, using Thunderbolts and Flamethrowers and Charizard even attempting to tackle the huge wolf off of his trainer. Unfortunately, none of their attacks are fazing Amarok at all and he opens his mouth, preparing to take a nice big bite out of Red.]
iii. wildcard
[throw something else at me if you want! note that red will be in the hospital from 8/16-8/20, though he'll be asleep until 8/18 so any threaded hospital visits should take place no earlier than that date. feel free to hit me up at this journal or
ii
Move it!
[ He doesn't mean to be so brusque to Red's Pokemon, but he has no time. When he gets there, he immediately attempts to grab Amarok by the scruff to fling him off Red to make some distance between them. ]

What the--
[He didn't expect this! The castle ruins didn't look like this beforehand. Instead of looking like something from some kind of ancient civilization, it felt like he stepped right into something out of a fairy tale. The castle is now a castle again! Neku looks at it apprehensively. Something about this just doesn't feel right. But nothing about any of this should feel right, should it? Neku lets out a small sigh before he walks inside. He keeps an eye out, looking at all the notable changes. Maybe it's some kind of test of memory. Did he really see anything that could have been a secret passage before the castle had been restored? He doesn't think so. But, then again, he hadn't been too concerned about that when he first arrived.
As Neku walks deeper inside, he notices the bears and sucks in a breath. They're still sleeping? Maybe it's really impossible to wake them up after all. He forces himself to relax. He can handle this.
Neku does a little bit exploring, seemingly looking for other secret passages. He is open for conversation to talk about things and such. Especially about the weirdness of the place and about his theories on what is going on.
He can also be found fighting shadows, a particular nasty bunch surrounding him in a small group that he'll need help taking out.]
II. 8/15 ( Is It Angels, Is It Devils? ) - Velvet Room
[He's waited for this moment. He looked forward to it ever since the Fortune Teller lady talked about it.
This is the moment that he just may see Shiki again.
The moment the doors open, Neku walks in without much of a second thought. He doesn't even bother greeting them. He looks around the room frantically. Each second the hope he feels diminishes more and more until there's eventually none of it left. He got his hopes up for nothing. Shiki isn't here. Of course she isn't here. Why did he allow himself to even believe for a second that things would be easy? Neku looks to the ground, visibly upset at this turn of events.]
You've got to be kidding me...
[What the hell is all of this for then? He turns to one of the apples in a fruit bowl, picking it up and throwing it at the door with a loud thump. But he doesn't feel better. He doesn't feel better at all. He just feels hopeless. When the hell can he get home? He leans heavily against the wall before he sinks to the ground, suddenly very exhausted. Anyone near the door would have definitely heard the loud thump and could investigate if they are curious. Or maybe they opened the door at the wrong time and only narrowly avoided getting hit by the apple projectile.]
ii. definitely devils
He's back to being dressed in a dark blue uniform, so he's glad it was an apple that Neku threw and not a peach or grapes or something else that would've splattered everywhere; an apple, at least, is easy enough to pick off the ground and rub on his shirt so he can eat it later. ]
Maybe... depending on what you're talking about...
[ He didn't really expect anybody to be happy or excited to see him or Souji, but man... Neku sure is upset. ]
