i. 8/16-8/30: you're half the man i am
[ It can't get any more ironic. The morning after Obon, a box of butter is delivered to Mondo's doorstep. You might...

1) Find it before he does, if you walk by the warehouse nearby the school early in the morning. Did Mondo start a new business? Who knows.

2) Spot Mondo staring at the box of butter. He'll think it's some prank that someone pulled on him. He might visit the Velvet Room to see if the attendants know anything. Or are they behind all of these random items that come out of nowhere?

3) Be invited by him to have some, or for a cooking session. He doesn't even cook that much so he'll probably give it to Terry otherwise, maybe? The hell does he do with 80(???)kg of butter... It says 80kg on the label, but it's light and weighs at most 1kg. However, when they scoop there seems to be endless amount of butter...? ]

ii. 8/16-8/30: we're gonna accelerate till dawn
[ Later that evening, people might notice a large shadow floating on the air, until it finally is dropped just a few centimeters away from where Mondo is... The crows are working hard to deliver it to him, but the fall certainly did some damage to it ー especially since the motorcycle is self-built. He has so many questions, but before that he'll do some reparation work so if you stop by, he can show you how to fix a bike, or if you ever want a ride from him anytime in the month after the 16th, he's game... if he likes you. Then again, he likes a lot of people in Hirajiro, so that's a thing.

He'll also start some delivery services now that he has motorbike!! Hirajiro's first Uber? Maybe... ]

iii. 8/20-8/30: neko neko neko nyaamii nyaamii
[ Mondo is almost scared of waking up every morning because something just suddenly come up without warning, and today is no different. He wakes up to 5 more kitties on top of the one he already has. So now he has to father 6 cats... He doesn't know if he can take care of them all, and Lia the tabby (his first cat) isn't very excited with his attention that are now have to be split among the other five.

He'll walk around the town with them trotting behind him, trying to see if anyone wants to adopt one or two. He'll keep them if no one does... Maybe if anyone wants to help him name them, lol, he's always relying on other people for names... useless. He'll also allow people to play with them as long as they're gentle! You can decide where you see him in town because he'll literally walk around the whole town trying his luck. ]

iv. 8/25-8/30: 8bit tour

So Mondo manages to get a secondhand galapagos cellphone that can send photos and text, also do calls but not video calls! Feel free to bother him through phone calls or texts, he's not very tech savvy but he can text. You can also order some delivery through him... lmfao maybe if the attendants want his services... ]

v. anytime in august
[ Apart from working at Hoshino Carpenters, where a middle-aged couple work on carpentering services as well as some wood crafts, Mondo has his own side job of making trinkets and smaller wood crafts which doesn't have to go through the Hoshino's. If you want to commission him for a gift for that special someone, he's here. He'll also hold some impromptu workshops too and is more than happy to teach people how to make things! Despite the large bara fingers, they're quite nimble.

Other than that, he'll be at the dungeons to collect items and $$$. He wants to save up for phone (which he'll have towards the end of the month), so he'll find every ways possible to get all the dollah. He will still be around even after he gets his kaching because nothing wrong with getting more money! If you want to team up with him, he's down. He'll be in every floor except the fourth, he's here for your Fire and Physical attack needs. He's also gotten Tetrakarn so he can reflect physical damages, if that's a thing that you need! ]

[ She's still of the opinion that she'll go home and die, and it wouldn't be fair to keep a pet in that case. She'd just be building a family and tearing it apart in her selfishness. ]

Remember when I tell ya 'bout the different universe I was in? The place was called Wonderland. If ya ever read the book 'Alice in the Wonderland'... apparently the world was based on it.

[ Well, it's his fault for not providing context, so he'll fill her in. ]

We lived in some kinda... mansion? It was kinda like castle, sorta like the one we came from. Everyone's got a cupboard in their rooms, and they can get whatever they want from it, 's long as it's within reason.

[ It has never really come up in conversations, so he hasn't actually talked about this to anyone else but Kurusu, but now that he says it aloud... it probably sounds like a whole load of bullshit. ]

[ He doesn't come off to her as a thief, but that's also in line with how unbelievable this all is. Though, aww. ]

[ She laughs like she's... laughing at him... But that's even cuter than asking for a dog outright, the idea that being around a cute little puppy is Mondo's idea of healing. ]

I guess that's what they mean by being careful of what you wish for, though. I hope you took responsibility instead of stuffing it back inside the cupboard?

[ He doesn't look really irritated any more than he's embarrassed though. ]

[ While Kido's heard of Ryuji, she doesn't connect the dots because she is imagining a literal monkey swinging around the trees in the forest by its tail. The image of Akira with a monkey... It's a little hard to imagine. ]

I know Kurusu... I've only heard a little from him about where he'd come from before, but it sounded like a horrible place. Is that "Wonderland" where the three of you came from? He said something about being trapped in a building and made to kill one another?

[ Akira had no qualms leaving a place like that; he was glad for it and Kido was glad for him too. ]

[ The folktales like to say that dogs and monkeys don't get along. Maybe that's why Mondo and Ryuji always fought. ]

Nah, Kurusu was from another place... dunno what it's called. I thought we came from the same universe back home at first, 'cuz I was in a similar spot before I came to Wonderland.

's fucked up to know that there are, heh, 'killing games' happenin' somewhere else. We compared stuff and the happenin' was different, but 's still the same kinda crazy.

[ If it sounds like he's putting it lightly, it's because he's trying his best not to think about it too much. He knows what happens when he does. ]

Wonderland was a different universe I was in before I came here. It's... [ He doesn't know how to describe it. He can't say he liked Wonderland. But he's sure he doesn't hate it either. ] ...a place where I got my second chance in life, I guess.

[ Is that the sort of life Mondo came from? From what very very little she's heard from Akira, it's the sort of place that would make anybody break— if not from killing their friends, then from trying not to be killed themselves, from being drugged into compliance, from searching as hard as you can and there being no way out, from the powerlessness and futility of struggling against a "gamemaster" you're at the complete mercy of. Already, Kido knows she wouldn't last in a place like that; she wouldn't be able to kill, and her will to live isn't as strong as she makes it out to be. Especially if she had to do it all alone, there's no way she would have made it out, like Akira had made it out and Mondo had made it out. It takes a certain strength she doesn't have.

With those thoughts in the back of her mind, she looks up from where she'd been staring at the ground the entire time Mondo was talking, fixing him with a steely gaze. ]

A place like that isn't a "life." If anything, making it to Wonderland would be the first life. Even over here, don't think of it as a second chance. You only have one life, Mondo— you're still you, and you carry the weight of the past on your shoulders, but you're stronger for it and if there are days where it gets too heavy, I'll help out. So none of this second or third chance thing, okay? There's no need to start over.

[ Some people fuck up again and again and again, trying to do things over every time, but that's not how it works. There's no chances in life. You just keep going with what you've got. ]

[ Mondo opens his mouth, but promptly closes it again. He's made a decision to tell everyone he cares for about his past back in Wonderland, because they deserve to know. They need to know that he's capable of a blind murder, and need to be warned for it. What happened back home wasn't the only time he's lost control. Like the fight with Terry... even if he didn't kill Terry (and he technically can't, anyway), he completely lost control of himself.

Kido needs to know.

He must tell her.

But his voice won't come out even when he finally reopens his mouth.

He's afraid. It isn't like Wonderland, where he can detach himself and let them go, where he could think that even if they didn't want anything to do with him anymore, he deserved it. That hasn't changed, and it's not like the people he met in Wonderland mean less than the people here. But he's finally found a place where he belongs here. A gang, which goal isn't to break but to protect. It's the closest thing to family he could ever have.

He told Terry. He told Rei. But that was because he didn't have control in his emotions.

But Kido... it's hard. She has grown to be a figure that he looks up to, and cares for so incredibly much. He doesn't want to fail her. He doesn't want to disappoint her. He's lost count of how many times Kido's given him a push on his back, how much she's supported him with her direct, straightforward remarks. She has never adorned it with lip service, and that's what makes him feel he can trust her so.

There's no way he can tell her right now. He isn't ready for this.

He turns away, trying to avoid meeting Kido's eyes as he gives her light smack on her back. ]

...Heh. Thanks, Danchou. I know I can always count on ya.

[ This is where he should say 'ya can count on me too, aight?' but nothing comes out. He can't say it today. It's so hard when he knows he's lying to her, even by omission, when she trusts him so. ]

[ The past is the past, but there's a limit to forgiveness and the line is drawn at murder... Like when she told Terry a bit about her own past, how she had killed her father and even though it was out of self defense, even though she was just a terrified six-year-old at the time, she could never forgive herself for that either, because no matter how much of a monster he was, the moment he looked at her, with blood pouring down his chest, he looked so human. Unforgivable. Kido's no saint either, but she's doing the best with what she has, so she can stand up and be more like all the other women in her life that she looked up to. Warmth. Kindness. She struggles with those sometimes, but she can be fiercely protective and Mondo is her best bro.

She would trust him with her life. And being told that she can be counted on makes her beam, with the thought that she can count on him too being something that doesn't have to be said. Of course she can count on him; he would never let her down. He would never betray her trust, that she gives so sparingly now, after years of having it broken. ]

Yeah, you can always count on me. Whenever you have a problem, I'll be there to fix it. And if I can't I'll find somebody who can. All you ever have to do is ask.

[ Her kind, straightforward words, that have always been warming up his heart, now feel like arrows that shot bulls-eye to his conscience. It's not Kido's fault. It's his - it's his guilty conscience. He lets out a vague noise in response, walking a few steps ahead but keeping his pace slow enough so the kittens and Kido can keep up. ]

Ya wanna drop by? 'm plannin' ta work on their beds after this.

[ In a couple of weeks, she'll have to eat her words. There'll be problems too big for her to fix, and the people she would go to are the ones who are in trouble, and she won't know what to do. But for now, she has people she can rely on, who she wants to rely on her, and Kido nods, picking up the pace while glancing down at her feet to see if the kittens will do the same. ]

Sure, I'll come by. I've never seen where you live... I know it's not exactly a house, but there'll be ways to make it homier, like plants or a rug or something. We'll see.

[ That gets Mondo turning his head so fast at Kido, but he turns it right back to the front after a few moments. He didn't expect her to think about those kind of things for him as well. Then again, the thought of redecorating the place to look like a house never really hits him. Maybe, deep down in his subconscious, he's always prepared to leave. ]

Heh. Maybe you're right. Next time, I guess?

[ Soon, they arrive at his 'place'. Kido might have already had a picture since he told her he lives in a warehouse, and it really is just a simple, small one. When he opens the door to it, Kido will be able to see a cat bed (Lia's), a mattress for himself, and Je-- his self-built motorbike. On the other corner there are a bunch of assorted tools from farming to carpentry, a mix of what people left out and his own stuff. ]

Uh, there ain't really anywhere ta sit, so feel free to just sit on the mattress. I'll get ya somethin' to drink. Tea's good with ya?

[ It'll have to be next time, since the initial visit is just to see what the place is like. Even temporary places deserve to be nice and comfortable, and the warehouse isn't too bad at all. She was expecting metal walls and wires dangling from the ceiling, something like her base back home, but it's warm wood, and if all the windows are open, the room would be bright and sunny. It's kind of nice. ]

Yeah, tea's fine, thanks.

[ There's no need to be reserved, so she goes ahead and sits down on the mattress, leaning forward to hold her hand out to Lia. Let her pet you, Lia... ]

[ He doesn't keep any appliances in the warehouse, so instead of proper tea, it's just those bottled ones he got from the stores nearby. He doesn't usually get guests coming over, but he keeps the normal sized ones just in case, as well as the 2L ones. ]

Do you prefer the sweet kind? I've got this lemon one, and the normal black tea.

[ He'll show them both to Kido and let her take whichever she wants.

Meanwhile, Lia's already claiming space beside Kido's leg, ready to get pets. The rest of the kittens are just crowding around Mondo's, eyeing both Lia and Kido in curiosity. ]

Heh, Lia's sure gettin' fond of ya, huh? I wonder if she's a dog in her previous life. She doesn't act like a cat sometimes.

[ Two liters of tea... I'm imagining Mondo just chugging straight from one of those instead of pouring it into a cup. ]
